There is a great article in Sunday's paper about the greenways. I believe they are supposed to be up to 40 miles now.

So...let me take off my mittens...wait a minnit...1...2...that's THREE 'bents to wave at!

There was a great article in Fridays paper on the front page that i got named in! I'm totally famous! (I'm Ryan Cooper in case my s/n didn't give it away)

On the Front Page

And online!

In other news...

I saw a few bents on the 3rd creek/neyland greenways this weekend. I was talking to a guy on a nice looking LWB bent but he got a flat and i had to go catch my wife who had ridden ahead. (he had a spare tube and center-stand so there wasn't a lot I could do to assist with the flat) his wife was on a sweet looking tadpole reverse trike recumbent. Really nice guy.

Nice newspaper mention.

Unfortunately, there's still not a good direct route to ride from West Knoxville (beyond Papermill) to downtown without confronting heavier traffic.

It will be nice when they complete the greenway extension across the river and south towards Blount County.

If you don't mind 'a little bit of traffic' there is a route from Wal-Mart/Sam's Club to Bearden Elementary (where the "real" greenway trail starts) that isn't too bad. The worst part is riding on Morrell Rd. from Kingston Pike to the enterance for the Deane Hill Shopping Center. West Town Mall Traffic = Morons. If you survive that part you don't have to ride on any more major roads though.

Is this the route you describe?

Jean Teague Greenway-->Vanosdale Road-->Morrell Road-->Deane Hill Drive-->cross over Kingston Pike to Sutherland Avenue-->Third Creek Greenway

My driveway connects to Deane Hill and although i do see people braver than I am riding down it, you won't see me pedaling there.

I go:

Jean Teague Greenway-->Vanosdale Road-->Morrell Road-->Deane Hill Shopping Center*-->Cresthill Dr.**-->Lockett Rd.--> Royal Crown Dr. (becomes) Baum Dr.-->across Northshore to Walden Rd SW-->Gore rd-->across Kingston Pike to Bearden Elementary

* there is a gate in the fence behind Kohls that allows a bicycle to cut through from the shopping center to the apartment complex to pick up Cresthill.

** there are a couple turns to stay on Creshill but for simplicity I didn't list them. Check a map and you'll see what I mean. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Cresth...i=map&ct=image

I'm not familiar with the area between Deane Hill and Kingston Pike. I'll have to check this route out sometime.

Thanks.

Heya. I'm about 30min west of Nashville in White Bluff. . thinking of doing some riding this spring if I can... just posted in the introduction section, here's the thread. which is probably overly long-winded.

here's my road bike on velospace: https://velospace.org/node/8712 I think I need to get another front tire though.. the sidewall seems to have rotted more than I'd like.

Thinking of riding mostly on HWY 96 between fairview and franklin area, seems like a nice road... maybe on the trace too. I live off hwy 70 and the slim shoulder and traffic makes me hesitant to make use of it.

Nick.

Hi Nick. I live in Franklin and I ride the trace and a lot of the backroads between Franklin and Nashville quite a bit. A lot of cyclists out this way. Especially on Saturday mornings! 96 has a nice wide shoulder. I prefer the backroads, but 96 can be nice riding. I ride it a lot in when I'm trying to get a quick time trial type ride in.

Welcome maybe I'll see you out there some time!

Oh yeah. I looked at the picture. Those tires do seem iffy.

any of you ever ride mtn bikes over at Montgomery Bell? They show to have approx 20 miles of trails. They look a bit cramped on the map... but it's about 5min from my house. I've lived here for 7 years and never knew about it... my mtn bike hanging in the garage all the while. I've passed the parking lot for it many times, thought it was a nature trail. I'll be going saturday as long as it isn't raining.

Chattanooga here. I enjoy riding the roads around town, and they really have done more than pay lip service to making this a bicycle-friendly town, and have actually gotten callbacks from the mayor and business leaders for constructive criticisms I had. My favorite ride is probably the new Riverwalk since it stretches all the way out to Chattanooga State, it's a beautiful ride.

Anybody riding the Crybaby and 3-State? These will be my first to race/rides ever and I am getting the butterflies. I am not so nervous about Crybaby. I am determined to finish 3 state, even if I crawl to the finish. I am riding 62-65 on weekends now and killing myself at the end to keep pace, so if I ride a more reserved manor, I may be okay.

I am moving to Memphis in the next few months for work. Is it possible/relatively safe/advisable to commute on bike from the burbs to downtown by the river? I am looking at Bartlett specifically. Thanks.

hello, I've been lurking for a while and just spotted this role call I live in Clarksville, Tennessee. Right now all I have is my old beater, but I'm going to be purchasing a trek 7.3fx here in about a month or so. I pretty much just ride all over town, trying to get in shape and not use my car.

Hey, how you doing. My first post here. Neat.

I live in Memphis (Cordova) just outside Bartlett. It would be a rather risky ride from Bartlett to downtown, but it is do-able. I think if I had to do it I would probably shoot straight down Stage Rd. and come south on Thomas shifting over to cross the Wolf River on Second St. I am sure there are people in town with a better answer. I have never done it but know some people that ride from Collierville to downtown Memphis.
