I'm setting up a new ebike. On my last ebike I mounted the controller on the frame with no cover to allow for cooling however I had problems water ingress on rainy days. What are the thoughts on enclosing controllers in waterproof enclosures with regard to cooling and overheating?
What kind of motor and controller are you running? How many amps?

Front hub gearless 400w 36V. About 11 amps, not sure about the controller
11 amps shouldn't be a problem heat wise.

Good controllers with current limiters are not suposed to get hot.Cheaper controllers do not have up to date design for filtering, fets get hot faster and should be heat sunk to the case.If the fets are mounted proprtly to the sides of a thin wall aluminum case that is sealed all should be fine.If the controller gets hot it is not made for the job you are requiring of it.Originally Posted by Bluepup
