Renting a bike in London

I'm planning to visit London from August 22 to August 30.
Taking my bike in the Eurostar (I'm French) or renting a bike in London?

Can you give me a good address to do that in central London? A place where there is choice because I'm tall and I really want a good bike.

AFAIK the couriers swear by "geographer's" http://www.a-zmaps.co.uk/?nid=31&iid=1671

everyone else just use regular A-Z because you can buy them everywhere http://www.a-zmaps.co.uk/

I bought the "geographer's" I ordered it online and I still have to receive it.

One more question, I 'm going to see some Prince's concerts (I have some tickets for August 24 and 25 if somebody wants them). How long would it takes to bike from Kensington west London to The O2 arena http://www.theo2.co.uk/web/guest/gettingthere

Is it too far ?

I would be going back home to Kensington at 4 in the morning after the aftershow. Would it be safe...
