I don't mind the plastic ones, the aluminum fenders tend to make a bit more noise. Yesterday my rear fender developed an annoying rattle that I eventually traced to a loose screw. They sure look nice though...

Exactly correct, it's an old Nordberg rotary diesel that was used in the pumping system that manages Lake Okeechobee. There are a few retired engines & pumps on display at a park in Lake Harbor on the south side of the lake. I couldn't resist climbing all over them...

My brother got this Specialized Hard Rock for me for Christmas, 1998. I bike commuted on it until 2008, and have toured on it twice so far, with another one planned for this spring. It's been a great bike. I've mostly rebuilt it twice (wheels, bottom bracket, cassette/freewheel, crankset), and repainted it last fall.

Nearing a "finished" (meaning ride-able) product. Posted the first pic a while ago, but wanted to show the progress made.

Don't have a real "before" shot, but this is just after painting and new headset & fork. I started with a Trek Mtn Track 850 from 1994.


Now, I've got new everything else; BB, cranks, pedals, chain, rear cassette (11-34), wheels, tires, seatpost, headset, front fork, stem, handlebars, and now bar-end shifters. I just need derailers and brakes to be done.

Looks pretty slick, nice job! Is that a Surly fork?

@chris_in_miami It is indeed. It is the LHT, but I didn't want the branding because a lot of bikes get stolen around my office. I started scraping the stickers off, but then realized I was damaging the paint, so stopped when I got to "Sur".

Most of the work is done. Its a mid or late 80's Schwinn High Sierra. All I have left are some little things and some dialing in. I will eventually build a wheelset for it, but not in the very near future.

Looking good degan! I need a stubby stem like yours for my Rockhopper. I'm feeling a bit too stretched out due the length of the top tube...

Thanks, I happened to have that stem in a pile of parts and thought it would be perfect, seeing that the top tube is pretty long. Also, its super tall. So far I've spent about $50 total on the whole thing. Everything else I already had or traded things for it.

Here is my 1984 Ross Mt. Rainier. I have really enjoyed this bike. I just recently ordered a Long Haul Trucker and while I'm looking forward to it, in some respects I feel I'm cheating on the Ross.

Love the handlebars and overall look on the Ross. Makes a good ol' fashioned "country bike". I'd never get rid of it, just will it to someone you really love when the time comes.

Yeah I'll never get rid of it. I changed to those bars a couple of years ago. It was fun wrapping and shellacking them. I really enjoyed the results. I bought this bike new and it's never let me down.

About the same time I added the bars I added the B72 Brooks. I walked into a bike show in Iowa and asked if they had a Brooks by any chance. The guy replied, "Sort of." He pulled out a dusty old looking Brooks and said he had traded someone for it. I got it and a new seat post for $50. It turns out the seat was new and had never been installed on anything. I cleaned the dust off, treated it and it was comfortable immediately.

Riding on the B72 made it difficult to decide what to put on the LHT. I almost went with a Champion Flyer. My original thought was a B17. I did finally decide on the B17 Special Honey with the copper rails and rivets.

just changed to a friend's 2nd hand voodoo bizango... the eyelet on the non-driveside gives me jitters although the frame is a dream!



i got the disc brake hose clamps made by jagwire a day or two after this photo was taken, so yeah, it's neater now!

I just put new tires, dumped the biopace, and added a blue B-17. Not sure if I'll do anything else to it.
