I had originally hoped to take the train to SF and blast away with many cameras and long lenses, but my wife said, "let's ride," so we did. I did tape the 6-hour live coverage by the local abc affiliate, however, so I was able to watch and get the full effect of the suspense. Here is the report from the local station http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/news/0907...rand_prix.html
Reading the USPS blurb, i came upon info about fillmore hill, a half-mile climb with an average gradient of nearly 18%! 18%?!? I dont know if i would dare ride DOWN this hill
Heck, Joe, it's scary going up Fillmore in a CAR! You worry about stalling out, and when you get to the top you feel like one of those submarines doing an emergency surface: nose way up in the air (no visibility of what's in front of you) and then flopping down on the flat cross street. There are a number of SF streets that have steps cut in the middle of the sidewalks, and Fillmore is one of them.
