This winter for me has been the same, mild for what we usually get.
By far our worst storm was in october! If you can believe that.
Well maybe it is all building up for the very second i take my studs off my Univega.
Also, sturdy bike you have there.

The frame was a gift and was pretty much NOS... it's a nice entry level chromoly frame and I changed the stock fork to give the bike a little more trail and more subdued steering.

I had all the spare bits in my shop and the bike built up very nicely over the course of a few hours.

My old winter bike (Kuwahara Shasta) got retired from winter duty so I could use it for everything else but the harshest of winter riding where an IGH and studded tyres really make a difference... has been so nice that I have taken out the Shasta if I know I am going to be riding on clear roads and there is no threat of snow or freezing rain.

The Shasta donated the winter wheel set that is on the Norco and got it's 18 speed drive train restored and is still very capable of handling some pretty nasty conditions (sans studs) as it is well fendered.

Rode that yesterday and was thankful for it's identical fenders as they kept all that freezing cold water and road crud off of me and after 20 km I barely had a speck of dirt on my boots or clothes.

It feels like spring where you never know if you are going to need studs and where the weather can change on a dime.

can't use the 42s. i have 46 nittos on my rando rig, and on the fargo i need room for my front bag / harness.

Just snagged some W106s 45c from LBS on a good deal (buy one get one half off plus 10% off). Have another set of fenders sitting around that are much nicer just need to find where I put the damn things.

That looks unstop-able. How tight is the fit?

The tires fit easily. I can fit a 29x1.9 in my Fisty frame just fine. When I ride this bike singletrack or gravel grind I use a set of 47c tires. I found the fenders and installed them and they are a bit tight they could stand to be wider but they work.

This winter is pretty disappointing. My Pugsley is all suited up for winter battle and there's barely 4" on the ground. At least it's been pretty cold to make up for it. Here's a picture of last week's hoar frost covering everything.

Pretty nice for a bike I bought as a winter beater, and it did that quite well... am really liking the 18 speed set up with the trekking bars and with front racks I could see myself using this as a touring bike.

Since I traded in my winter commuter in on the new 29er I had to go to plan B. This is my 2000 Cannondale F700 with a Fatty Head Shok. I slapped the studs and fenders on it an boom new winter commuter.

Well, it's been a while since I posted in here. I commuted pretty much all winter so far, but not so much lately (lack of motivation).

I finally reinstalled the ol' ESGE fenders and went for a nice ride in 5-6" of fresh snow. I went to grab some food and didn't think I'd go for an actual ride so I didn't bring the camera ... so here are the 'before and after' pics.

too mild here in Scranton, PA to even put on the studded tires this winter.
Now hitting 70 during the day.
I'll do pix next winter mebbe... only major upgrades I've ever done on my rigs [a K2 and a Trek]
is put brackets on the handlebars so I can use huge ass camp lanterns [D battery type]
instead of wimpy bike lights.

Here are a few pic of me and my trek 3700 in wisconsin. That year was so much fun. I hope to ride there again one day.

Here are a couple of mine.

1988 Kuwahara-built Schwinn Impact with Nokian 240s and sks fends. The rack is currently on my "ordinary" commuter.

Riding this bike, I actually overtook a car going up a hill last year, during a snowstorm.

Looking forward to another year!

Did some riding around Riverside State park yesterday. For my winter riding I just lower the tire pressure and loosen up the pedal tension some. The pics are in the old camp Seven Mile area of the park.

I love this picture, especially with winter coming up. That trail is just begging to be marked up!
