I still remember Larry and the Bhopal Stiffs playing at Dirty Nellies in the late 80s though, and have seen Pegboy more than a couple times.
So Lady H, name your fav Chicago show...inquiring minds want to know.
Amen to that :-) don't tell anyone, but I was going to Dirty Nellie's in the, uhm, later '70s to see Jump'n the Saddle Band among others - favorite show? hhmmm - hard to choose - haven't been going to as many shows since I went back to school so not up to date on all the new ones in the last year or so - going backwards, shows I've seen lately are Three Days Grace, Pegboy, Rancid, Toasters, Buzzcocks, Buzzcocks, Waco Bros, Onfall, Mustard Plug, Sex Pistols w/Rev Horton Heat & Dropkicks - there are others in there but can't remember them off hand - oh, SubHumans UK was one of them - lots of bands that are big now I was seeing in clubs a few years ago, and saw a whole slew of them a couple years ago at Inland Invasion the year Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks played, but I'm lost who's playing in the smaller local clubs right now - top of my list for Chicago has always been Naked Raygun though, and then of course Pegboy and the bands they came from, one of the reasons I love them so much - Bloodsport was one of them too, wasn't it?

No, of course you're not "one of them" - and I didn't have disco jeans with the colored stripes that went up the front of one leg around the to the butt and down the back of the other leg even though I didn't ever go "disco" - erm, and it wasn't pre punk out in the boonies either ;-)
I would only be scared if you still had said "jeans." My house growing up was pretty brand neutral (I was required by Maternal Law to wear toughskins though).
I have my Eisenhower jacket and a handful of gas shirts. I don't think I ever made the fashion transition to 'adult' though

No worries, then - those hit the dust by '79 - sad though, that my Shell shirt finally gave up the ghost a while ago - wasn't much left to it, I was wearing it for PJs by then - I went adult for a while by necessity, and it wasn't a pretty sight.....I would only be scared if you still had said "jeans." Ok, I'm hogging the airwaves here, sorry, and I have to go anyway now that I've had me coffee - but I just have to recount my most touching kid quip, once again - when my daughter was about 8 she was in the tub and I got a call - so I'm on the phone and she finishes, and drains the water and is calling me because she cold and needs help getting dressed - and she whines at me "'cmon Mom, I'm naked" - and I said "Oh, so you're a Bare Naked Lady, are you?" to which she replies "No, Silly, I'm a bare Naked Raygun" - I couldn't have been prouder in that moment :-)

That's great. When I have kids, I can only hope they'll respond in the same way. My parents raised me on a steady diet of Talking Heads, The Smiths and a bevy of classic rock. On family trips, we'd always bust out a host of cassettes, and I distinctly remember listening to the Talking Heads "Fear of Music", specifically the song "Life During Wartime". My brothers and I would sing along to the song and scream in our best imitation of David Byrne the line, "I got some groceries, some peanut butter, to last a couple of days."
Of course my parents loved that.
As for riding - it's raining here and I'm not too keen on being cold and miserable. I'll probably hope on my trainer for an hour or so, but right now I'm contend on being lazy.

Eulogy to Lenny Bruce ~ Nico
Almost anything that Jon Langford does - Mekons, Waco Bros., solo stuff w/ his Sadies and w/ Sally Timms, etc. - is great. Jon records for Bloodshot and also lives in Chicago, I think. Does that mean that y'all living in Chicago get the benefit of many, many excellent live shows??? If so, I'm jealous - although Jon usually plays Portland with one band or another about once or twice a year.
