    Our wonderful Hollywood culture.

Helena Bonham Carter is a movie star! Wow! Imagine that. A star! She gave birth to the child of director Tim Burton, her next door neighbor. And what did she have to say about this Hollywood moment? "I find it romantic bearing his illegitimate child and living next door. I don't know if we'll marry."

Someone please tell me, why the h%ll do some folks idolize these kinds of people like they do?

I don't idolize either Ms. Bonham Carter or Mr. Burton. Why do you? Why do you assume others do?

I wish I could answer your question. It never ceases to amaze me that people will value the opinion of a "star" just because thay are talented or attractive.

This is because you are obvoiusly a decent clean living person. Thanks for being one of the crowd that does not idolize these idiots.

And I certainly do not idolize them. I assume nothing, I watch other peoples reactions to the general hollywood example. Beleive me, people like this are made into cultural icons regularly.

I think he is a brilliant director. Loved Ed Woods, Beetlejuice, Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissor Hands, Batman, Nightmare before Christmas etc....I just wouldn't want to be his girlfriend.

Personally, I can't be bothered keeping up with all the
foibles of hollywood and its residents (goes for alot of
california residents too). I do however, like cbhungry,
appreciate Mr. Burtons perverse sense of theatre, film
etc. I just don't let their private lives get in the way of
    my opinion of their work.
Moral turpitude? you betcha. Good Director? sure.

Luckily I've not seen any movies by these two, but there must be something in that Star power thing. Look at the new governor of California. There was even a B grade actor in the White House at one time.

Perhaps if more people rode bicycles their heads would be cleared of this inane idolization. But maybe not.

I've never heard of Helena Bonham Carter. Besides having her neighbour's baby, what is her claim to fame?

She is an actress. And a very fine one.

Perhaps she'll be a fine mother too. Who knows? I don't. I'm more concerned about whether I'll be a fine parent to my children. (Sorry for the snarky tone but I can't get all worked up to cluck my tongue about a famous person and whether or not she's conforming to social expectations.)

Come on, they are trying to be role models for crying out loud! Look they are good neighbours, make decent money, the child is healthy, and they won’t waste time and effort on a marriage. Are you suggesting she take his name, move into his house and visit a church and have a christian marriage. I can’t say I would call this situation romantic, but it sure sounds convenient.

Could not have said it better myself. Family is better than growing up knowing you were the result of a one night stand and there probably was nothing resembling love in your conception.

I disagree. Children need love, understanding and guidance. And it has nothing to do with the parents living next door or in the same house.

my bet is that this child will be nothing more than a leverage device to get money out of Burton by this woman. The child will have money thrown at it and not love if the situation remains as wholesome as the conception.

Paul Gaugin was a good painter living a mediocre middle-class, existence working as a banker in France. He deserted his wife and children, moved to Tahiti, painted masterworks, and died, allegedly of a venereal disease contracted from an underage Tahitian girl.

I look at Gaugin's personal life and think "what a shmuck!"

But I look at his artwork and think, "what a genius."

Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter are having a child out of wedlock? Hmmmmm....

    What talented shmucks.

At least the kid's mother is good looking.

What do you care anyway? Live your life as you choose and don't worry about what others do. You aren't going to change anything. You will, however p!$$ people off.

Not interested in them at all. How people choose to live their lives is up to them.

It is a free society is it not?

As a comment I have never found HBC attractive or talented, although her looks must have helped minimise makeup time in Planet of the Apes (sorry)

I think Gaugin has been a little unfairly maligned - It was his wife who kicked him out, he had almost certainly had veneral disease before he went back to Tahiti, and whilst his wife was underage by many countries law, she wasn't by Tahitian custom.

Personally though I wouldn't have lived my life the way he did.

As to HBC and Tim Burton. HBC is in my opinion an adequate actress but not great, Tim Burton can be a very good director. As to their love life, if they're both happy and the child is well cared for then I wish them the best and don't want to know any more about it.

Yeah, but Tim Burton looks like the offspring of a union between Tiny Tim and Alice Cooper.

I don't. And I am commenting on a behavior pattern that is part of the reason our great nation is being flushed down the toilet.

But you are absolutely right. Judgement is for God do execute. I am merely calling things like I see them. I hope this child gets a break and has friends that will treat him/her like family since he will most likely have no real family structure. TB and his little peice if action can live any way they want for all I care but this child deserves good parenting. Something I doubt they will give.

I hope I am wrong and I may be.

I really enjoy TB's movies, and what I've seen of HBC's work, I've liked too.
SamDaBikinMan, your comments, wagering, and uber-parenting ideas regarding people and situations you know absolutly nothing about is pretty funny too.

I hope this isn't going to turn into another silly conservatives vs liberals thread. It is an argument that neither side can possibly win; so I hope you will weigh your words carefully before posting further comments. Thanx.

I believe that traditional family set ups are preferable. However, there is nothing to say that neither will be a loving, caring, supportive parent. I can not push my decree of perfection of life style upon someone else. And there is no reason that even though they are famous, that they have to as well.
