Isnt that one of the best triologies ever put to film? The matrix movies were great too, but they dont seem as 'epic' as the lord of the rings series. Plus Ive always liked that whole medieval/sorcerer/sword fighter thing too. Cant wait for the last one to come out.

That is definately a plus when watching the movies a good sub.. or even better yet get some bass shakers and mount them under your couch and chairs

Some of these things in the movies you can apply to your life, like the motivational speeches and equestrian feats. But it is better to leave the sorcery alone. I think what Tolkien was getting at with sorcery and swordfights was more along the lines of trying to interact with not necessarily the supernatural or martial side of things but the psychology of different people as relating to the world and that which is perceived as irregular, but still experienced by those in the world. For example, a dwarf in Tolkien literature wields an axe. Dwarves are known to be extremely strong. So why not have one use a big sword(Gimli I mean)? Perhaps this is because one can only do so much with a sword, but an axe can also develop the use of the mental faculties associated with destroying trees, in a dwarf, in Tolkien. Dwarves built their halls of stone to grand specifications, but they did not have the magic of the elves, who lived in their forest. So, there had to be some way to connect the multifarious ideologies of the groups, and the paradigm was sorcery-type stuff.

I'm not much for the fantasy genre but I did enjoy the first two LOTR films. I didn't like the first one until I saw it a second time though. And yes, a serious home theater sub is essential.
The theaters here are showing all three parts on the 17th!!

Our theater is showing the trilogy on the 16th. The first 2 parts are the Extended versions, which are MUCH better than the theatrical versions - especially if you are a fan of the books.Originally Posted by Resident

I figure that the trilogy should run from 2 pm to 11 or 12 pm. Don't know if I can sit up that late & that long on a work night.
It's better to cycle through life than to drive by it.
We WILL be buying the DVD and will watch all three movies in succession once the third is out.
Just got to wait for a rainy Saturday when the in-laws are watching my son.

Nothing quite beats the theater experience (well, minus the squalling rugrats and those mouth-breathing candy-wrapper rattlers), but Gods bless the DVD! Improbable as it may seem, the Special Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring is an improvement and I understand the same can be said of the Special Edition of The Two Towers though I've yet to see it. Let The Return of the King please not suck, and I'll be in line in a year or so to snatch up the Special Special Edition Director's Cut twenty-disk boxed set. You know it'll happen.

I refuse to buy anything until 1 year after thismove is done.
