Saturday I rode from Aspendale to Frankston to Black Rock then back to Frankston then back to Aspendale. Sunday I rode from Aspendale to BlackRock to Mordialloc then back to Black Rock then back to Aspendale.
The more I ride the more I want to ride!

Well, we just rode from Thredbo to Wollongong 366km, with 90km on train, due to time constraints. Is that ok?
We just got home and are proud of our acheivement, I'm really proud of my gal, she pedalled every km too! Go gal!!
We rode our tandem.
So today we rode from Moss Vale to Wollongong, fully loaded, down Macquarie Pass, 56km total. Lucky we have a drag brake on bike!

I just rode from the Gold Coast to Brisbane. Holy crap there are some idiots around today. If you want to know why Queensland tops the road toll year after year, come and do this ride. It will tell you everything you need to know. I could write a book about it, but I doubt anybody who didn't live here and see it day after day would believe me.

Last Saturday I had a much nicer ride to Mt Jerusalem in northern NSW and back. 200km and virtually no idiots by comparison.

I live in Bacchus Marsh, about 35ks west of Melbourne on the Western Hway. I recently purchased a Giant Anthem 0 LE on Ebay, about 2 monthe ago, I was riding an old Giant ATX770 before.
I ride - then catch the train to Sunshine then ride from the station to work, then in reverse home, about 21Km total ride. On the w'ends I ride in the bush (Lerderderg gorge area).

My friend and I have just completed a trip from Malanda to Cooktown along the bitumen then returned via the Bloomfield track, Cape tribulation and Mossman which is mostly dirt, mountainous and challenging. A most excellent experience!

I've been commuting 4 days/wk from Tully to Mission Beach, from canelands through rainforest, 25km each way to and from the beach. It is getting HOT!

On Thursday I rode on the M7 cyclepath to Prestons from Rooty Hill and back 55 km. a good workout.It was my first ride since coming back on Monday from a 10 day cycle holiday in Vietnam.Very intersting!

travelled about 25km to Melbourne CBD then home again. the weather was mild 18-21C but the sun was hot. I think I might take up riding at night or evenings until winter.

I will need to get a light set.

Hey 51,
Tully is on the coastal plain between the Atherton Tablelands and the Coral Sea. The road to the beach is mildly undulating. If you want hills, there are networks of ex forestry roads through the rainforest to Ravenshoe. The Hydro road that connects Koombooloomba Dam with the Kareeya power station at the foot of the Tully Falls has some serious downhill. If you're up this way with your bike, give me a call.

I left home at 3pm Friday with my camping rig and rode 25k through harvested paddocks of sugar cane to the Jarra Ck Bridge on Mullins Rd. It was very hot on the way out as I cover up with LS shirt and long cargos for sun protection. I had a swim when I arrived then I set up camp under a large fig tree on the sand bank. I went luring for Sooty Grunter among the snags in the sweeping bend of the creek. I caught and released three. I am planning an extended tour and I need to practice my fishing and camping techniques. I cooked up a mess of lentils, pasta herbs and dried veg which didn't taste too bad. I had a tin of tuna so I didn't need the extra fish. I had an early night and had to sleep on top of my sleeping bag because it was still pretty steamy in the evening. I woke at 3 am and decided to pack up and ride home in the dark. It was much cooler then. I have a dynohub and excellent lights so the return journey was very pleasant. At this time of the morning there was no other traffic on the road. A light mist was down and I was riding without a shirt to take advantage of the breeze. I passed quite a few houses with all their xmas lights blazing. They're making sure Santa will not miss them on the 25th! I got home at 4.30am, stretched, warmed down, showered and went to bed.

Not today, raining.

Last Thursday, I set out on a little shakedown ride of the new touring bike. Full load. Toc to Shepparton 80 k, Friday 115 to Mansfield, in the rain. Monday: Mansfield to Tocumwal 160 - km. That's too far in a day for me , but doable.

I achieved what I set out to do. Thoroughly check and adjust the bike fit and confirm that the setup of panniers worked and was thoroughly secure. Also to see how it all travelled, get a realistic indication of timing/speed/distance and of course to check how I travelled. It's all good. the Tubus/Ortlieb combo on the front worked a treat, but the rear (Axioms) will need liners - leaked even with covers

Now I know how far I'm happy to travel in a day in a sustainable way, and am pretty confident about setting off later for a tour of an indefinite length. Now to decide where.

Hey jstava,
You must be a younger man than I. I usually peg out between 80 and 100k in a day because I like to get a bit of fishing in. 160k fully loaded is fantastic!
As you can see from my pic I use plenty of plastic bags to line my paniers and organize stuff in my trailer. I was involved with "Outward Bound " in another life and I learned to pack any stuff you wanted to be kept dry in a set of two plastic bin liners. You pack your neatly folded clothes into the inside bag then twist the neck of that first bag a turn or two then press out all the air with your knees and hands. When the bag is quite flat, you seal the bag by twisting the neck a few more times and fold it down the side. Repeat the process with the second bag then pack it into your panier. Getting rid of the air gives you more space to store other stuff you don't need. The second bag is in case your clothes are "Dingo Ugly! I use heaps of bags to organize my gear and keep it dry. If you need tougher bags, vet body bags are available in small, med and lg. They come in several colours too. I keep my tucker in a med green vet bag. It keeps out moisture but not bandicoots! I don't think about what might have been in it had I not bought it.
