its just not my day... I'm going to call it quits.
Actually the book was Snow Crash. The Deliverator, Hiro Protagonist, delivers pizza for Uncle Enzo's CosaNostra Pizza Inc.
My favorite line from the book, right at the opening was
I found the ending lame though, kinda like old Neal ran out of steam."A bullet will bounce off its arachnofiber weave like a wren hitting a patio door......"

I haven't read Snow Crash yet... Cyrptonomicon (sp?) turned me off - never even finished it.
I recently read The Diamond Age. It's a lot more accessible than his other books, a lot less in your face about "In the future computers RULE THE WORLD!!", although the plot still relies heavily on the premise of technology permeating all aspects of life.
I've read Cryptonomicon, Diamond Age, and Snow Crash so far. Liked Snow Crash best, though like h8r said, The Diamond Age is a lot more accessable. Not perfect, but definitely a worthy read.
I've read almost almost all of Stephenson's books, except Quicksilver. Something about middle-age fantasy crap turns me off.
He can't end a book to save his life. Although, I think Diamond Age is his best ending.
I liked Diamond Age for its cool concepts....the human/nano-tech computer where networking is accomplished through sex, the primer (an extension of the librarian concept from Snow Crash), and the army of Japanese school chicks.
Who wouldn't like that though.....
I dug Cryptonomicon. His geeky segways are awesome.

Snow Crash is a quick zippy action read. The Diamons Age gets a little swamped in the middle with obliqueness. Cryptonomicon - the pacing was just too slow. I want to really like it and get into it but man, too much in the past, not enough cutting between and pacing.
Quicksilver looks daunting. First book in a trilogy no less.
I'm about 100 pages into Quicksilver--out of 900. The early story is steeped in the history of scientific discovery during the 1700s. It has been a good, albeit slow-paced, read. Definitely a departure from Snow Crash and The Diamond Age.

Ha, the original reference to Quicksilver in the other thread was about Kevin Bacon - the movie Quicksilver with Kevin Bacon as a courier in San Fran I believe... I actually didn't even know Neal wrote a book titled Quicksilver...
I like the book, Zodiac, by Neal. The main guy is "A granola bar James Bond," he's a lightweight ecoterrorist, think the Dude, from the big lebowski, with an axe to grind.
I have never actually seen Quicksilver and from what I hear I should, but only if i want to watch it as a comedy.

Damn, that was funny.
I enjoyed Quicksilver, although it was definitely a departure from his normal stuff (except for the length). More historical fiction than anything. I've read all his books. If you're looking for some light reading by him, try Interface which he ghost wrote.
