This may be the most fevered, imaginative movie about cycling ever made, with wonderful 1930's style animation. It's hard to summarize the plot, as it's mostly a bunch of crazy ideas; spurred on by his grandmother, young Champion decides to pursue his passion for cycling by training for the Tour de France. Alas, despite his outlandishly huge thighs and calves, he's not very competitive, staying barely ahead of the dreaded broom wagon, but he's alluring enough for a pair of sinister thugs, who kidnap Champion and steal him away to Belleville, where he's to become a part of a gangster's nefarious gambling enterprise. It's up to Champion's grandmother, his aging dog Bruno, and a trio of spinster vaudeville singers who eat nothing but frogs to come to his rescue. Delightful!
