3rensho mystery ! (Very Pic Heavy)
A few weeks ago I posted a pic of what I THOUGHT WAS A '3RENSHO' and a few of you nice ppl seemed to think otherwise,I was asked to supply more photos esp the lugs and serial no,s well I,m not the best photographer in the world but I did my best lol,I,m sorry if they are to big or to many, as for the bike itself, well, its lighter than a butterfly wing with a full shimano 600 setup except rear derailleur which as u can see is a "Dura-Ace"and almost vertical rear dropouts, serial no under BB is "H124660"wheels are "Ambrosio Montreal" with Olympic rings on sticker, I realise that this bike does not fit the usual description of a san rensho so maybe it could be a "FAKE" but if its not-have I got something special here ? I'm guessing it is a nice japanese frame but not Rensho. The lugs would be more finely filed and much sharper looking on the end.
If I had to guess I would say it is a KHS frame. The fork blades look to be Tange.

I think it may be a 70's Nishiki Competition or similar, but I've not seen one with vertical drop-outs?
It is certainly not a San Rensho. Obviously repainted in the 80's or 90's and re-decaled as such only.

Vertical dropouts, no brake cable guides or brazed on DT shifter bosses. That thing is throwing me for a loop. I haven't seen lugs with cutouts in that shape before..... Either way. It looks like a pretty nice frame. What size seat post? Any stamps on the dropouts?
That brake cable routing is hurting my eyeballs!

we have, it's fairly commonplace on Nishiki and may be an "off the shelf" Japanese lug, since it's used on other makes too. I agree it's some brand of JP bike, and since you say it's very light it's probably good tubing. Given the cable routing that's still there, I guess that there may have been top tube cable eyes that were ground off or un-brazed, maybe a shifter stop, too. Are the dropouts and fork-ends SunTour branded? The serial number will probably click with T-Mar, but that BB shell is seamed, the kind of cost-cutting you'd expect on a mass-produced frame, not from 3Rensho...no way.

Miyata had those same lug cutouts even back in the late '70s but I think the cable routing was all brazed-on even then. The '78 catalog even shows vertical drop-outs on some models, but they are different from your 3Renfaux. Miyata/Fuji had similar serial numbers, but as far as I know they both used a two-number prefix, not one. "H" would place the frame in the late '70s, if it is infact a Miyata.

Take some measurements of the top and seat tubes c-to-c. Your bike looks to be a 56 seattube and Miyata would run a shorter toptube (around 54.5 on a 56 seat tube or 56 on a 58cm seatube )

Thread dig...
It was established above that Ozneddy's bike is not a 3Rensho as badged.
I was made aware of a Gumtree advertisement today for a pink 3Rensho, which looks remarkably similar to the subject of this thread, down to the Dura-Ace derailleur and clamp-on cable guides. The seller's name is 'Ned' and the bike is located on the Gold Coast.
So Ozneddy, why are claiming this is a 3Rensho when you are fully aware it isn't?

Then you wait and eventually run the ad listing the bicycle as a 3Rensho?
Hmmm.....
Do you happen to have the copy from your ad ozneddy?
When I click on the linked ad it only says "sold" and doesn't give the ad copy.
That may straighten out these assertions from forum members.

ned, it certainly wasn't me trying to play you. please don't try and sully my good reputation with your insinuations.
iirc, bike was listed as "3Rensho race bike" and described as " very rare japanese race bike, hand built by Yoshi Kono (master frame builder), needs new tyres, collectors item. "
if you ask me, that doesn't leave much room for misinterpretation.
