    Bob Jackson.. Worth $350?

    What do you guys think?

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/929743017.html

AM looking for a winter/grocery getter bike that has a decent ride but not too nice that will make me freak out to leave it outside (locked up of course).

I asked if he'd take 250 for it since the components are just a mish mash and the frame looks like it's in ok shape.

It does have rear eyelets so I put fenders on it. He thinks it's bout 15 years old which unfortunately puts it in the middle of the iffy period for Bob Jackson's. Asked for a serial number, more pix, if the fork is original, and just general condiction of the bike..

    Thoughts? Insight on the bike?

    Thanks!

I'd say its a nice bike for the price. It is easy to find drop bars for not much money. You don't need to worry about changing shift cables, Get some Tektro brake levers. They have big comfy hoods that many prefer. They also make them in a very retro tan color.

I'd say the economy must really have taken a turn for the worst if it is still for sale.

I had a 1990 Bob Jackson for a year before I sold it for being too small. I heard tales of that era being "iffy" also, but aside from the horrid color, there was absolutely nothing iffy about the bike. It was well crafted, and the bicycle handled like nobody's business. Where you are, asking $350 for that is like giving it away.
The search for inner peace continues...

worth it, especially in Walnut Creek...and it *will* get stolen if you don't lock it properly. Still, it doesn't look entirely bling-y right now, and a load of electrical tape can work wonders.

    Thanks!

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I haven't heard back from him. Might have insulted him with the 250 suggestion or he's waiting it out.

Alan.. didn't mean I'd store it outside. Just meant outside while I was in the store... My bikes are either in the garage or in the breakfast nook area..

Oh well we shall see how it plays out. I oughtn't be buying bikes anyway during the holidays.. (speaking of the economic down turn...)
