I picked up a bunch of wool from a company that was going out of business. Mom made us all blankets, siblings/grandkids, some were like what you have on the chair. Good spot for that...

never really been that into Schwinns (ok, i'd probably take a Paramount), but picked up these two Cross family members locally but separately in the past few weeks for $125 total. they're both 1992's with double-butted True Temper. the CrossPoint is a 22" with full Deore LX (w/ XT shifters) and Wolber rims - there's a training tire on the rear wheel that I haven't replaced to match the front yet (they happen to be some brand new Michelin CycloCross Jets). the CrissCross is a 20" with SunTour XCT / XCM and looks to be all original. i'm hoping the CrossPoint size works for me cause i like the color better and it seems like it'd make for a fun gravel bike ... otherwise, i might have to swap components between them.
Was walking by a table at the flea market, and spotted the unmistakeable shape of Freewheels. I get closer, and there are five in total. I snagged the best four of the bunch. They look to be near new takeoffs from a bike shop, that got squirreled away and forgotten. VERY low or no wear. Two Suntours, one is a no name, the other is a Perfect. The other two are identical Shimano 600 13/21's. All of them had mechanical problems immediately fixed by spraying them out, blowing the cleaner out with air, and re-lubed. Just gummed up from not freewheeling for a loooong time. All four combined, were ten bucks.
Call me an idiot but I passed on a friction shift Univega Gran Rally for $60. It was missing the rear brake, because someone want to reduce weight or something. It also had this REALLY short curved handlebar. Rear wheel was an Ultegra 6600 possibly? Had a WIDE spacer behind the cassette. Front wheel was a newer aero style replacement wheel. The frame was decently clean. Some hipster found a bike and was started in on a fixie, and thankfully stopped short only removing the rear brake and changing the handlebars. The Full 600EX group was there, DT shifters and all. I came close enough to buying it, that I had my money ready. I had already asked the seller how much he wanted earlier. One of the mental notes that stopped me? The possibility of the proprietary DT shifter bosses. No square base. The lugs had cutouts, it was sky blue metallic, and it was beautiful. It didn't fit me, either. I wanted the group more than the bike itself. Why I passed on it? I don't know...,,,,BD
If it's there next weekend, I will snag it. This was the frame it had....

PedalInmetal, I just grabbed a slightly worse-for-wear CrissCross locally for $30. Same exact color, year, and size as yours, and all original. It was in a state of limited functionality, but I rode 'er around the block a few times, and it's a fun ride. I'm in the process of a full tear-down and rebuild. One word of caution, apparently the Suntour X-Press levers use a hard-to-find cable. I had already snipped mine before I realized this. Oops. Something to keep in mind before you start pulling any components. Happy riding!

I spotted a dark photo posted to a local CL ad for a take-off road bar, with newish bar tape, aero brake levers, and 150mm long threadless stem, all for $25. The stem was goofy long and seller stated it wasn't part of the $25 price and wanted $40. I'm no NBA center, and passed on it. But when I arrived to pick up the rest, I happily saw a near brand new set of Shimano 2300 8 speed brifters on the bar! Oh yes!!
I needed a shifter solution for my next project, and these were a gift from the N+1 Cycling Gods.

If you team those brifters with some decent components from the time when 8 speed was king, you'd have a nice group!
Knowing full well the old saying about chickens being counted before they are hatched, I am picking this up this weekend. The frame will get a FULL inspection before I drive away with it. I have plans for it to be a commuter type bike, with small slick tires, and Deore DX drivetrain. In other words, tearing down my Trek 830 find from a few months ago. From the condition the paint looks to be in, it may get a strip/polish treatment. I have the set of bars that just came off of the M1000, to get me started.,,,,BD

Thanks for the spelling correction. It's been a while. I really loved riding it (the Lejeune) during my younger days. Rode it from Brooklyn (East New York section) to work in Harlem 3 times a week. About 19 miles each way! Brake-less "steady kicker", as we referred to track bikes. Even took it as far as Bear Mountain upstate NY on more than one occasion. Rode it on the Kissena park velodrome in Queens NY early Sunday mornings when the track would be empty. It was chrome plated. cinelli track stem with the enamel painted medallion. Fiamme Tubular rims with Normandy high flange track hubs and clement sew ups. Sugino track crank. Cinelli 67 track bars. Etc. as you can no doubt tell, I really miss it.

Picked up the Cannondale, driving 108 miles round trip. It was worth it though, for the frame alone, which will be the main part I keep. I already transplanted the rims from the Sante Fe in this picture. Originals were silver Ritchey Vantage on Exage hubs. I still haven't decided on bars yet. I might just drop the old bars and stem from the M1000 on it, but I have other mtb bars and stems to choose from. Maybe some ergo bars and bar ends. Still up in the air.,,,,BD
