Did Metcalf for my first time today. Didn't time myself really close, but I got ~23mins from the bridge over 101 to the motorcycle park entrance. That hill is unrelenting.

3 Bears - new "sort of PR" 1h 2min 30s, I can't honestly claim this time though as I managed to draft a cat3 I know into the wind down SPDR for 2-3miles. Despite that, I think I'd have beaten my previous marker

edit: went into Sporttracks and crunched the numbers. From SPDR/Bear Creek to Castro Ranch I shaved 1min 9s off my previous fastest time (this part includes my draft). From the Castro Ranch turning to the end I was riding solo and was able to beat my last time for this stretch by 1min 18s. That means I got a new PR either way

This isn't a climb per se but I found some more cool stuff to do in Ascent so I figured I'd post here to gloat There's a triangle 'expander' menu on the bottom left of the Activity Detail view that lets you turn on some more cool data points, like highlighting your top N HR/pace/gradient/whatever points, overlaying HR zones, etc. Here's tonight's SJBC crit trace, which was a PR for me. I got dropped right before the start/finish on lap 10, was able to catch up from a turn and a half back, but the effort killed me.

I did Montebello tonight and was actually trying for a fast time, not just "establishing a baseline" (ie sandbagging). Got up to the top in 34:23 which is almost 7 minutes faster than when I timed myself on March 31 at 41:20.

I was out of the saddle in either 34x23 or 34x21 most of the way from the base to the school. Then a slight recovery. Then spinning at a pretty high cadence in 34x26 once the slope angled back up.

That's in the 30s for the LKHC times. If you tried, you could get that to 32 and be in the top 20.

    Crazy fast time, either way.

It's four seconds faster than the median LKHC time from last year. If I'd gone 5 seconds slower I would be below average

I think the LKHC self select strong climber/racer types. Even now, without training for it, you're above average.

    Look on the bright side!

Yeah I know .. was just being facetious. I'm pretty happy with the time for now. It makes me feel better from my +11 minute performance on Diablo this weekend.

Personal record up OLH (set a few months ago): 19:38. Seated the whole climb. This was before I started racing, though, so I'm going to go for a new record soon!

Nice! Breaking 20 minutes is still one of my not-actively-pursued goals

Your OLH time is great! Well done.

For King's Mountain, I use Greer Road to the stop sign at the top.

I have seen some people use Woodside Road as the starting point, but I do not like that as much because it is flat for a little ways before it starts to climb. Greer is much more accurate for the start of the climb.

+1, it's basically when you pass the historic general store.

Sub-20 OLH is very admirable indeed! Well done.

Sheesh, tell me about it. I have to get a new PR up there on or before Oct 4th.

This thread inspired me to try OLH again, and I finally have something to put on the board: 20:12. Close enough to 19:59 that I wonder if I could have dug a little deeper, but painful enough that I don't wonder too much!

Good job JL. I say dig a little deeper in a few days and aim for that sub 20 marker. You are damned close.

New best up San Bruno Mtn - 23'25s. Didn't exactly blow the doors off my old one (10sec faster) but a best is a best.

August 4: Montebello in 32:34. My main strategy this week was to pretend I was only going up to the school knowing that the grade would relent enough for some recovery. I got there in almost exactly 14 minutes which was the only time I checked my progress during the climb.

It felt like in the last mile or so I was fading more than when I climbed this last week but I guess my faster pace in the beginning more than made up for it.

Mt. Diablo from the gap in the fence from alameda diablo road, south gate:
    1:20:--

First time doing mt. diablo today, it was pretty cold and hard to keep myself motivated to ride faster. I will check back in a month to see how much I improve.

Sierra Road - 35m 35s. I think I could easily shave some time off that if I tried. Still puts me in with the low key pack

Yesterday I did Metcalf in 13:52 from the intersection of Malech road up to the motorcycle park. This is one second faster than the median low key time from last year.

I set a new PR on OLH. 1 minute faster than my previous best. I think I could trim another 30 seconds off this if I were fresh. Definitely could feel yesterdays steep hills in my legs, but I'm happy with the time.

The LKHC calculator puts this at 291 watts - 3.5w/kg.
