I was going to buy a Kilo TT when they were back in stock at BD because of the price, but after going from this thread to the Kilo TT thread I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on a Maroon Steamroller! I'm truly amazed how many different builds are out there. You all found/built great Steamrollers. I'll keep mine stock for awhile. The FFF gives this sucker a huge leg up on the Kilo TT. I know the Kilo WT is coming out this summer, but I couldn't wait.

I already have a SS CrossxCheck so Surly just seemed the correct route. I love the CrossxCheck so I bet I'll love the Steamroller. Thanks for the inspiration.

Just finished my 09 Steamroller. Went for a first ride and it's great!

Snapped this pic last weekend. I swapped out the touchy-feely bits straight away, but still have stock cranks and rims. I have a 17T Surly cog sitting on my desk that'll go on in a coupla weeks; the stock 19's kinda light for my riding style...

What kind of fork is that? Burly...

How are you people removing the Surly decals? I've tried many times but no matter what I do I can't seem to remove them.

I did it by using my wife's hair dryer. Get the stickers nice and hot. Use a razor blade and gently scrape them off. It took about an hour to get them off. I also used "Goo Gone" to clean off and remaining sticky stuff.

I used the edge of a blank CD. No heat required. Took me about 15 minutes, finished it off with a simple green wipedown and voila. Just don't bend the CD over the tube too aggressively or it will snap in half. I lost one that way.

i like it so much better without decals...it was the 1st thing i changed about the bike

I got my fork and seat stay decals off just by using duct tape, if you can believe that. Rubbed it on hard and just ripped it off. Top/down tubes were a little more stubborn, but after I worked at them with an old ID card for a bit, they came off soon enough. Including cleanup with Goo Gone, it took about a half-hour, tops.

The disk fork on my old one was a Winwood (QBP) OEM fork. I purchased it off of bward on here, I think he mentioned it was from a Wazoo.

The disk cross bike idea has been transfered onto this bike.

for those of you using goo gone, I found that lighter fluid works just as well for getting the residue off. I used it on my velocity rims and on my girlfriend's SE Lager decals. Goo gone is pretty expensive, but if you put a little bit of lighter fluid on a towel and rub off the sticky stuff it works pretty well. Just don't smoke near your bike for a little while

I just a plastic knife. I started with a hair dryer but found that it came off in bigger pieces with out the heat.

I got the decals off pretty easy with a credit card and my thumbnail. Whatever residue was left over, I just rubbed off with a little vegetable oil. I wasn't sure how lighter fluid would treat the clearcoat, though I've used it for lots of similar needs. Looks great. So wonderful that Surly was considerate enough to decal over the clearcoat. Most companies are so wrapped up in their precious self images that they'd never dream of it. I guess that they know that most Surly owners are so proud of their rides that even if they strip the decals off they're gonna be telling everybody what they're rolling on anyway.

i haven't decided if i want to remove any decals, though my fork says "curly" instead. new tires!

Just removed my decals last night using hair dryer and two fingernails. ~30 minutes. Instead of GooGone stuff, I just took a towel and wiped it down good. No residue left. If anything, I would've used WD40.

mrgrizz - Nice looking tires! I want to pick up a set of 35-38's soon. What's the specs on those?

they're continental travel contacts, fairly slick with knobs on the side. label says they're 37c but seem more like 34c. i love em.

Got bored, noticed the stickers come off quite easily. Most likely going to "debadge" everything sometime. Otherwise parts from my Langster ended up on the new frame. Investing in sealed hubs soon.

for NYC people, just use a metro card to remvoe the decals.
15min tops. no hair dryer necessary.
