well, for what it's worth, the sponsor thing is going well. well enough, in fact, that we'll probably be able to afford to rent a van for some of the races. for the ones closer to home -- sherbrooke and mirabel -- we'll probably be able to use the shop van. and there will be at least two other cars. so we're looking good. i would be delighted to have you along for the ride, andre. i'll have to check to see if i can get you into our colours -- i might be the team manager, but i'm at the mercy of the title sponsor when it comes to the OFFICIAL roster and giving away team kit -- but you are certainly invited to join us unofficially and, as always, train with us. in fact, i would insist on it. you have a love of the mud and that, in the end, is all that matters. besides, in last year's races, you suffered almost as much as i did!Originally Posted by arctic hawk

Heck! I'm not in it for the team kit. They don't look too warm, IMO, much prefer my jacket. Honestly, I can't imagine someone wanting to sponsor a last place rider anyways. Speaking of which, who is the sponsor? The bike shop? I just want to participate, try my best, & enjoy the comeraderie. Besides, the 3 Quebec City area races seem a little far for me to drive back & forth on the same day. I am waiting to see what OBC is up to & will attend the 200km range drives.Originally Posted by velocipedio

I gotta find a hill around hill & start hill sprinting or something soon.
Bring it on!!!

Its Chris actually, the bikes used to belong to Martin, think the wheels are only sold complete. see http://www.x-gear.co.ukOriginally Posted by Timo

Here are some pics of my early '70s Gitane that I modified into a 'cross "look alike":
Reynolds 531 frame (w/canti and cable braze ons added), Peugeot unicrown fork
Paint is DuPont Centara, Chevy truck white
Campy Strada crank (43t) w/homemade "bashgard"
B17 saddle
Chainstay guard is leather string from the fabric store wrapped around an old inner tube!

Do you guys find your HR monitor really useful? Im debating whether to just get a normal computer or a HR monitor with odo and speedo?
I used a computer with odo, speedo, max, average, etc. for more than ten years but decided that I don't want to be a "slave to the average speed" like I was. I used to hate it when the average speed dropped below 30 km/h when doing solo rides.
Since a year or so I only use HR monitor (Polar). For health reasons - it's an ideal help in my attempt to loose weight![]()
My new racing machine...
Frame: 2003 Redline Team CX frame - Scandium, 48cm
Fork: Redline 7005 cross
Headset: Cane Creek S6, 1 1/8"
Stem: Profile H2O, -15, 90mm
Handlebar: Ritchey WCS, 42cm
Shifters/Brake Levers: Shimano 105, 5500
Brakes: Shimano LX M-System Cantilevers w/ Kool Stop Eagle2 pads
Wheelset: Performance Fuego wheelset
Tires: Ritchey SpeedMax Cross, 700x32c
Front Derailer: Shimano 105, 5500
Rear Derailer: Shimano 105, 5500
Bottom Bracket: Shimano Dura-Ace 7700, 109.5mm/68mm
Crankset: Shimano 105, 5500, w/ Ritchey 48/38 cross rings
Pedals: Time ATAC
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra, 12-25
Chain: SRAM PC59
Seatpost: American Classic, 250 x 27.2mm
Saddle: Selle Italia XO
Using a bathroom scale, about 20.2#. The saddle is fairly heavy and the wheels aren't the lightest but they're sturdy. Let's hope the Scandium frame is more durable than people make it out to be. I figure if the Cross Concept is Scandium... plus I'm only 130# and pretty nimble on my bike.
Blast, nice setup but why the DuraAce BB? I wouldv'e thought the durability of an Ultegra would have been a big plus on a cross bike
Thanks all, I can't wait to race it.Originally Posted by pinky
Many of the parts on this bike I had collected in my spare parts box, including the DA BB. I debated buying a complete Conquest Pro but this brand new Team frame came up on Craigslist for $350 (the best part about buying the frame is I bought it from an Elite Woman CX racer so I met her in person). The only other parts I needed where a headset ($20 used S6/Craigslist), Time ATAC pedals ($45 used on Craigslist), brake pads ($20 new from LBS), and shifters ($100 near new on Craigslist).
In the end, if you add the parts in from the parts box, it probably cost more and the Conquest Pro but at least this bike is one of a kind (and I got to meet and chat with a couple of elite cx racers to boot).
On another note, Craigslist is awesome. You sometimes meet some great people and you sometimes get great deals... e.g. for $150 I got a set of Dura-Ace 7700 cranks and BB (the cranks are on the road bike) and for $135 I got 105 cranks, BB, FD, and RD.
Now do I sell the Axis or the full-suspension MTB that I rarely ride?

Ooops..bad link in previous post. Here's my ride. It is an older Redline with some cheapo components but it gets the job done.
