Looking for partner: May-Aug 2010 Shanghai to Kashgar

I'm planning a Shanghai to Kashgar tour for the summer of 2010. I'm a Chinese Canadian from Toronto who speaks fluent Mandarin.

I've only just begun to think about the route. I can get free accomodations in a number of cities which lie directly on the route between Shanghai and Kashgar:

Shanghai (relatives here); Nanjing (relatives here); Xi'an (I was born here, numerous relatives); Lanzhou (friends of relatives here); Wulumiqi (relatives here).

The trip will be just under 6000km.

I'm a male 21 year old architecture student. If you're interested, contact me at yan dot personal at gmail dot com.

I just saw my own thread again today.

I ended up changing my itinerary to Shanghai-Kathmandu via Tibet, but diverted into southeast Asia halfway through the trip due to issues with obtaining a Tibet travel permit. I cycled 7600km from Shanghai to Singapore, via Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia. It was a great, great trip which has left me with plenty of memories and stories.

    Hey Yan,

I am planing a Beijing to Delhi ride through Tibet and Nepal this coming summer. What kind of issues did you have trying to get into Tibet?

Eastern Tibet was unexpectedly closed to all foreign visitors, ostensibly due to road construction. Hope you have better luck when you go. Remember the mandatory guide, driver, and vehicle will cost around $4500 US, so look for some touring partners to share the cost.
