What a kick ass finish!!!
First time I've seen a rider so visibly upset when he lost at the finish, as the Euskaltel rider was today. (In wide angle, you had the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat side-by-side.)
The weather certainly hasn't been French "Chamber of Commerce ideal" has it?
I guess there was some sunshine at the end of today's stage, but midway they were going through more rain or wet roads.
Kind of cool there was a Hinault (Sebastian) in the last breakaway today, in Bernard Hinault's hometown.
Shame about Sven Montgomery, who abandoned after a crash today. What's his injury?
Broken collarbone.
i may have overreacted
This Tour has been marred with crashes. It's all Tyler Hamilton's fault.
2004 really is shaping up to be the year of the young guns.. Cunego, Boonen, Cancellara, Pozzato...
You said it... if you're under 25, this is the time to shine at the races!
Yes, it is terrible about Sven. I am really wishing him well. He crashed at the Giro, and now he's crashed at the Tour. Hopefully, he'll be better for Worlds and maybe make a bid for the Olympic team for Switzerland? Unless they've picked the team already, of course.
Koffee
They are already calling it the "Tour Day Crash".![]()
Lance was at the very front of the main group as the leaders were about 7 seconds clear with a few km's to go. I was thinking if it all came back together then, would he have attacked.
Before all you 99'rs start poo pooing this, realize it was a very difficult finish, those gradients were splitting the field all to hell. It was much like a one day classic, with a finish that played to the strongest and smartest. The narrow, twisty roads would have made it hard for anyone who missed the attack to get out of the bunch to join it.
He would have had a 12 second bonus for the win, and kept out of any crashes.
If you look how shattered the bunch was when they came in, it obvious the last few KM's were tough tough tough.
