The wife and daughter pulled me into the theater to see The Hunger Games. I put up with mean-spirited full-sized Munchkins dressed like extras for Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory for about 1:10, and then wandered out into the lobby. 21 Jump Street was just starting, so I wandered in there to take a look.
Good call..... more than salvaged my $9, and laughed my ass off. Funny movie, if you like Harold and Kumar, The Hangover, Euro-trip kind of crude sophomoric humor.
Good stuff - 8/10 just for saving me from a rehashed "Running Man" and putting a smile on my face.
The Hunger Games? If you're a 16 year old girl, you'll probably love all 2:20 minutes of it.

Caught the matinee of American Pie - Reunion.
Unremarkable and not nearly as good as the previous franchise entries, but at least the original cast was intact. Maybe a 6/10. If you're a huge AP fan you might want to catch this one in the theater, otherwise (for the just curious) wait for the DVD...... it won't be too long a wait.
However - that being said........ I gotta say that Eugene Levy is one hell of a funny guy. It's nice to see old pro's practice their craft.

True Grit - Well done re-make and Jeff Bridges really captured the true grit of Rooster Cogburn. 4.5 / 5
Daybreakers - Enjoyable little vampire flick with a nice twist... 3.5 / 5
Doomsday - Throw together The Road Warrior and 28 Days Later you get this collage of uber violence, apacolypse, and gore which is nothing but pure escapism... 2.5/5

Tinker Tailor Solider Spy: 4/5 a pretty good grown up spy flick. No one jumping through windows or driving cars backwards at 100mph just intelligence folks doing you know intelligence work. Kind of makes me nostalgic for the Soviet Union, made it easier to pick out the bad guys.

Tower Heist. Saw it on a plane. Not great, but better than expected: 6.5 out of 10.

A Bothersome Man: 4/5. Another great film out of Norway but it won't be everyone's cup of tea but I think it was a successful examination of what makes life worth living.

Have been watching some foreign films of late:
Mongol- Chronicles the rise of Genghis Khan as the leader of the Mongol Empire... a second and third instalment of what was supposed to have been a trilogy were planned but have not come to fruition
Fearless - Jet Li 2006 - A loose adaptation about the life of Huo Yuanjia, the founder of Wushu and a national hero in China.
Both were good watches as long as you keep in mind that these are very looise adaptations and that in the case of Khan, the historical evidence is overshadowed by many legends surrounding this man and his life. The first movie only hints at the brutality that was to come at the hands of the Mongols as they overwhelmed the east.

Watched the original Death Race 2000 (1975) the other day. 3/5 maybe, but I like it. Most would probably give it a 1 or 2. Bad acting, but humorous gore and lots of trim. Stallone and Carradine at their finest, lol.
And Buddha I'm right with you about Ferrell. I saw Everything Must Go last week, I'd give it a solid 4/5, maybe 7/10. But yea, I think his usual goofy role got old several years ago. He does pretty surprisingly well with the serious stuff.
Pirates! Band of Misfits! Um.... 3.5/5, particularly as an Aardman Animation fan. I'll go see anything that those guys do.

Red Cliff: 2.5/5 I saw the western version which evidently was chopped for length, it shows. Basically Dynasty Warriors the movie.

The full version is oh-my-God long. It's so thorough, I'm not sure if anything else could have been added. The tiger hunt is probably the most important part that was left out of the Western cut.
Watched Drive and the Lincoln Lawyer yesterday. Actually gave me hope for modern movies, but it's like the music was chosen by a 16 year old girl in drive. Then again, the specific song I'm thinking of was actually very fitting. I'd give them both a solid 8/10.

Red State 2/5. I'll give Smith credit for going outside his comfort zone and it's shot very well but the plot kind of rambles, characters seem to act on whims and it really is a bit of a mess.
