LOL at the Trek haters. I never said anything about who makes the frame. Just that the new Giants look at lot like Treks.

The downside is NVO stems are proprietary. So instead of having a virtually an endless choice of stem lengths and angles you get maybe a handful of options from NVO. This limits your options significantly as far as changing stem length or bar height.

Find a lighter, less obtrusive lock, change from a pump to C02 and if you have a rack to use, loose the kickstand. It's a great bike but it's too fat.

I experimented a WHOLE lot with my FCR when it was a flatbar. I am telling you right now, your wrists are NOT going to enjoy that position at all. Especially with the seat pointed downward, as it will force more of your body weight onto the handlebars.

Seeing that backpack in the picture makes me think you could use a rack. I tend not to worry much about weight, though - my 7.2 FX is set up for comfort. I modified it with Nashbar Trekking bars, Brooks B17 saddle, big platform pedals, and SRAM Attack grip shifters. I also added a kickstand.

And definitely angle that saddle up. I would raise the stem up, too, but this again would be for comfort over speed. Either way, nice bike!

Hmmm? I've looked at the responses to your post, mine included. D___ed if I can see any evidence of 'Trek hate' in those responses.

I have been building a collection of photos of my bike - the CCM Torino 76 - for some time and I guess this wouod be the best place to share them. The bike is a 1976 CCM Torino, made in (I think) Weston Ontario from 531 steel. They don't seem to have any interest in the Torino 76 over in the classic & vintage forum, even though I have replaced every moving part (except the headset and brakes) with something modern and modified the frame I Thought they would be excited that I got rid of useless things like 'freewheels' and 'friction shifters.'
This is the way I had it set up this past winter. I had removed the studded tire from the front before this picture was taken, but everything else is the same. I even left the rust on the chain. Not a great picture, but you can kinda see the internal cable guides I brazed in place when I had to put a patch over a rusty crack in a seatstay.

Then I refitted it with a Ritchey drop bar I had laying around. I have not yet ordered my Jtek shifter for the Alfine IGH so the SHimano rapidfire shifter is mounted on a cut-down rusty bar end attached to the quill of the stem adapter. I also replaced the steel staight seatpost with an alloy one with a built-in clamp.

The latest incarnation is with a Salsa Woodchipper off-road drop bar. THis picture was taken before I had the bars and brake levers in their final position. I rode the bike for about 30kms like this, but it wasn't quite right. I tried using the rule-of-thumb for putting brake levers on drop bars: the tip of the lever in line with the bottom of the flats. Not bad, but insufficient room for using the hoods, and the drops are so shallow they don't feel anything like drops. I have since adjusted them and they feel better.

Does this count as a hybrid?

It's easy to balance the bike on a curb... It's a lot harder to do it this way...

I shot the crank arms black. Also done, but not visible are the covers to the shifters. They were silver. I popped out the chrome ring and clear window gear indicator and shot it black too.

Haha yea I just did a test run of about 6might to test out my adjustments..and the only uncomfortable thing was my hands lol. Are there some good handlebars I could switch to without too much additional stuff like new gear changers or brake levers or anything?
