Today I rode 40km of very steep connector roads for the Mawson Trail only seeing a few cars on the dirt roads it was cold and windy but that's never an excuse to not ride, it rained all day the day before so its finally going to green up soon.


I think this was a kiln for baking bricks. I liked how the fern grew at the doorway.


Black trunks from previous fires are a common site here and the scrub regenerates quickly.




I try these shots often but always fail.

Yesterday was a 39.7 mile round trip to the Throgs Neck Bridge.

This was the first time I had made this ride. More than half of the trip is the Brooklyn Queens Greenway.

I consider this a strong climb for a 30lb back pack, 27lb bike, 260lb man; felt good.

I've got several routes from my current address or my new address coming up that have great bike lanes or bike trails. Anything from neighborhood loops the multi-day treks. I think this out and back is going to be my favorite for early summer mornings. It's about 20 miles round trip and has a 400 feet elevation change in a short distance. Great for being back in the house before it gets too hot. At the end of the ride, NE on the map by the lake, the veiw is spectacular (most of the ride ain't shabby) but I forgot to take pictures. I just sat at a picnic table trail side overlooking the lake below. Maybe I'll get a shot of that next week. Anyway, here are a few from the route that are kinda fun. This is a short peice of the River Mountain Trail east of Las Vegas. A 35 mile loop I will tout as long as I'm here at the forums.

This trail is out in the middle of nowhere in most parts. See the post that say Hikers, bikers and horses? The only thing I've seen in 70% of the trail is bicycles and it's never crowded. I've been here for 8 years. I road this trail this morning and all I can think about is getting back out there first light in the morning. My new house is one of the very few that gets close to the trail. If you very want to know about the other Las Vegas just ask me. I wouldn't trade this place for anything else on the planet.











These are from other sections of the same trail; not from today's bike ride but I hope to do the entire loop tomorrow. I am excited.

I am hanging out for Thursday. Got a ride with me mates coming up. Maybe 4 mountains and about 100kms. Woo woo. Did a quick warm up today of one hill and one mountain, but only 35kms. Tomorrow morning I`ll do it again. I have to get my mountain legs back quickly. I`,m only doing an average of 105 kms a week but my friends are doing over 400 a week. They are going to blow my doors off on Thursday.

Biked out to the lake to fish a little. Its been a long time since I bike+fish'ed; but hopefully this is the first of many fun excursions. Hope for better fishing luck though next time, even the crane's and heron's were striking out.

It's beautiful, and even though the sun is shining it only gets up to about 50ºF this time of year (on a warm day). It's at about 9000ft elevation. I spent the entire weekend there and I can't wait to do it again next year!

It's a lake. The weather was crazy when I was there. I was up until 2am on Friday night, because the wind from the storm coming in was howling. I've never heard anything like it; the wind in the city is a lot different because the buildings reduce it's impact. When I got up at about 4am to go to the bathroom urinate (didn't feel like going to the bathhouse, so I just peed on the side of the cabin), there was about an inch of snow on the ground. At 8am when I went to the communal building for breakfast, it was gone. It wasn't above water's melting point, so the only explanation is that it was blown away by the intense wind. I've never seen that happen in the city. I guess all the snow was blown to the mountains.

Did I mention the wind was crazy?

Btw, if any of you guys are ever in Colorado, message me and we'll go on some great rides.

As I mentioned above, I've got a ride on Thurday that I have to get my mountain legs back for, so I did 35 km saturday and I did 70 km today. I'm a little proud as my friends refuse to attempt this one particular mountain so I did it today. It was freekin hard but the other side was worth it. The temps were perfect for the mountains (15 deg c) and 21 deg c on the flats.

If you're interested in the event coverage taken in the middle of this ride, you'll have to visit my blog. It's a bit much to go into on here, an I don't like to copy paste much into posts for bike forums, as I consider that to be bad forum etiquette.

I'm very pleased with my footage considering it was my first event. Basically a mini-tour of the entire floor (except for the concession area), and a few interactions with various booths. The guys at Bern really hooked me up, giving me free updated brim and foam parts for my helmet. Watching him enjoy the scarred and life hacked glory that was my helmet was funny. I sensed he could feel the mileage in it. I guess he had seen so many that were brand new, that seeing them well worn gets him fired up.
