has anyone had shoulder surgery ??

i had shoulder surgery on august 4th as i had a type 3 ac seperation as the result from a cx crash @ the end of april , it was kind of like a bone was sticking out of my shoulder , the doctor wanted to see if i could live with it , around the middle of july i decided to go for surgery as i was having a little range of motion trouble which i know was not right , surgery was august the 4th ,so the doctor put in 2 stainless steel buttons some kevlar & some cadaver hamstring to re-atach the torn tendons & glued me back shut , so im wondering how long b4 i can ride my cx bike as it sits in my bedroom and it looks sad if anyone plans on the surgery think twice as it is painful and im wondering if it will ever be the same , i cannot even lift my arm from my side 10" it hurts like hell , thanks to all .

just coming off a type 2 ac separation, no surgery, been 6 weeks no bike, back on bike now, cannot shoulder my cx bike. if you had surgery I would think it's gonna be 6 weeks at least. The real problem is if you fall during the healing time, you will destroy your shoulder again.

ah.. if you had Surgery in April and you cannot move your arm more than 10" now , you have a problem! Have you been to see your doctor? physical therapy?

it's too soon. do your physical therapy like you're supposed to. i had my surgery in mid-march and i wasn't on the bike again until mid-may. it's not worth it.

i crashed april 24th and had surgery august 4th , it has been a little over six weeks from surgery , i went to the doctor wedensday and he took off the sling and gave me a pully type rope to use with both arms to stretch the bad shoulder , i pedaled my bike around the parking garage and it was weird to see just how much you use your shoulder for up out of the saddle run's i nearly fell.

im going to wait till the middle of october to ride , i just want to make the turkey ride here in so cal for thanksgiving

You will be fine if you follow the Doctors instructions and stick with PT.

I had shoulder surgery twenty years ago and have 95% range of motion.

I totaled my shoulder in a motorcycle crash 18 years ago and couldn't move my arm at all - both before and after my shoulder reconstruction surgery. You really have to do the physical therapy. They'll probably start you with stuff like placing your arm to the wall and using your finger power to "walk" up the wall, further and further each time. Then exercises with the arm dangling down and a dumbbell in your arm that you try to swing back and forth. Then pedaling an exercise bike like contraption with your arms. Stupid stuff like that. But it works. Eventually you will regain the motion and strength in the arm.

My injury was in March, my surgery in June and I was fairly normal about 3 months after the surgery (because I did all the therapy) but still wasn't allowed to swim/surf for six months. That was the worst part!

18 years later it doesn't really bother me at all and I work a very physical job. I have some range of motion loss but nothing I even really notice anymore.

I've had 20+ years of shoulder injuries - mostly separations / subluxations which began with a full dislocation in College. Every orthopedic surgeon I saw wanted to operate, but I never did. I gave up heavy lifting but you want to know what was the best thing I ever did for it.....take Pilates classes. My wife became a Pilates instructor this past winter and used me as her practice dummy. We also purchased a special type of equipment called a reformer. The Pilates erased 20 years of pain / issues with my shoulder. knock on wood - no slippage or injuries despite several falls and other things which previously would have put it out of joint. I would highly recommend this.

Had similar surgery to you for completely severed AC and CC igaments torn maniscus and lots of muscle damage.
I was off the bike for close to a year. I now have 99% functionality out of the shoulder 2years out.

update , everything is perfect it has been over 1 1/2 years , every once in a while i have a strange pain in the shoulder area just for a few moments , it could be the dead persons spirit pinching me as i have his tedons
