I might have to forget about dinner tonight. Wife said she was going to cook, but it isn't happening. Too much going on that needs to be dealt with and it is already past 8:45. In a few I will be Skype-ing Spawn 1 for a physics 1 tutorial.
I need to lose weight anyway so it is all good.

Peeled 1 lb of shrimp to make scampi in about 1 hour. A very nice bottle of California viognier is chilling. I'll be chopping fresh flat leaf parsley soon.
I also dry rubbed a pork shoulder to smoke in about 40 hours from now. It is sitting in the frig. I can buy some "OK" cole slaw locally to put on the resulting sandwiches or I might make my own.

Made a huge batch of potato salad (potatoes, mayo, chives, salt, pepper, lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar) for my mother-in-law's birthday cookout.
Also made cold mango-cucumber soup (mango, seedless cucumber, red onion, lime juice, chicken broth, cilantro). That's what I'm eating for lunch right now.

My gf needs to loose some weight and is thinking of switching to a primal diet.... a friend of our has had amazing results and is becoming a very strong rider
anyone here switched to it or a paleo diet and made great gains?
I'm willing to give it a shot since it's easier if we are both eating the same foods.

Pack of licorice after dinner last night - trying to limit it to 2-3 packs a week (about 250g/ 1/2 a #).
One of the packs is part of my nutrition regime for my weekly long ride/race/ride to keep the calorie intake up (220-250km including a race in the middle).

At my folks' house tonight and my mom made fideo. Mexican comfort food. I nearly ate the entire pan.

I have numerous loquat trees in my yard. I'll eat a few every year, but mostly I leave them for the birds.
I also have a tangerine tree in my yard and I eat them but most of the fruit goes to the squirrels. I give away bushels of fruit every year.
I used to have an old fig tree. Wonderful fruit, but I had to be out at dawn to get the ripe fruit before the birds did. The tree passed away long ago. Sigh.
The trees that are the best are the calamondins.

These are VERY sour, but are fabulous for being the fruit for an "orange" cake. My m-i-l gets the fruit and I get to eat the cake.

And I got sidetracked.
Tonight the SO is making her wonderful beef and broccoli stir-fry. I've already sliced the flank steak and prepared all the broccoli.
I also made a Thai-style seafood salad with squid, shrimp, cucumber, lemongrass, Serrano pepper, red pepper flakes, red onion, fish sauce, lime juice, tarragon, and cilantro. Tasty and hot!

Just put a large batch of vichyssoise in the frig to chill. Will add the 1/2 and 1/2 along with the fresh chives just before serving. I really like cold soups during the summer.
My wife just called and said that she got a butcher to cut some good and thick steaks for grilling. Hers and mine will be topped at the end with a cream cheese, Maytag blue cheese, shallot, pepper ( this time jalapeno, I often use Serrano), and white wine vinegar topping at the end of the grilling. Spawns 1 and 2 will not/do not enjoy the extra "zing" and theirs will be naked.
Rocket and baby spinach salad will start this dinner off.
We'll probably break out one of the "reserve" Alexander Valley zinfandels for this, more for the meat dish than anything else.
The Cuisinart did a good job blending the ingredients. I was surprised. I didn't have to break out the chinoise to get the required velvety smoothness.

I have two Mexican CocaCola's in the frig. My boys have been warned to keep their hands off or there will be hell to pay. I may allow them to taste a little.
Thursday I am making some seared scallops in a Thai style. I'm thinking about getting some squid to make a cold squid salad to preface the entrée. I'd like to find a really spicy Gewürztraminer to go with that, but I have been disappointed with the ones I have purchased recently included the Alsatian ones. I had an outstanding one a few years ago, but I have not been able to get it again and the store that I bought it from hasn't been able to get it from their suppliers.

F. That. Noise.
You can lose weight by just eliminating any massive junk habits, then choosing smaller portions of the stuff you normally eat. That would be my recommendation. Try this once: eat dinner off of saucers instead of dinner plates. Seriously. I once lost 12 lbs in 5.5 weeks by doing the following:
-cut the daily column of oreos, and replace with half an avacado
-cut from two sandwiches to one
-didn't put food on my dinner plate until I saw what the kids left on theirs -- often, their leftovers would be my whole dinner
-cut power output to endurance for all riding during the weight loss. If I got on a steep climb, I self-moderated by nose-breathing up it
Things I didn't change:
-dessert -- I still ate ice cream and cookies, just smaller portions
-brown sugar in my oatmeal... it's actually oatmeal in my brown sugar, but I left that alone and cut portions
My wife kicked me off the diet when I hit 170 lbs (6'4"). I held it for about 9 months, then I got tired of forcing the lower intake and let it go. I gained back about 7 lbs, and I'm pretty happily balanced.
I came out of that diet with a good base and really light weight. In the build phase, my FTP shot through the roof (MAP testing 500W at 169 lbs.) and immediately started trouncing the Cat 3 fields here. I took the upgrade, but I couldn't ramp up my volume and was unable to compete in P/1/2 races -- ejecting about 20 minutes into them. So I downgraded.

i go through 1.5 cartons of Edy's Slow Churned ice cream a week. currently in my rotation for the last month has been Soma (chopped up soma girl scout cookies) and cookie dough. i top a big arse bowl with fat free whip cream and chocolate syrup. now, i need to go over to the weight loss thread and brag about being down to 168 pounds. summer is good. later.

During the summer I become paleo-ish, just from the fact that we tend to grill and eat a lot of veggies and fresh fruit.

I bought two huge bags of organic basil today at the farmers' market. I see a big batch of Gary's pesto in my immediate future.

Today's lunch is pretty much paleo approved: grilled tri-tip, apricots, and a nectarine. (Although I don't think the Diet Dr. Pepper will qualify.)

We eat homemade cookies and corn muffins when we make them but that hasn't happened in a few weeks. I think the worst I do is probably go through half a stick of butter or so a week on toast and such.
I made some homemade bagels today.
wife made some homemade 100% whole wheat + grain bread
dinner is ravioli with spinach from the farm and garlic and parmigianno\
ive got 24 heads of garlic that are going to be ready to come out soon too

Yesterday i made a huge amount of squid salad (squid, red onion, grape tomatoes, flat leaf parsley, kalamata olives, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper) with fresh squid of moderate size instead of frozen "mini" squid from China. SO and Spawn1 preferred the "mini" squid. Spawn2 doesn't do squid, so he doesn't count. I thought it was awesome.

Today I made some salmoriglio sauce (very heavy on thyme compared to the classic recipe) to go with a sirloin tip roast that I will grill. The roast has been rubbed with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper and sat in the fridge for a couple of hours. It is warming up right now. And I have mesquite wood chips soaking as we speak for a bit of smoke.
As a side I am making linguine with capers, bread crumbs, flat leaf parsley, and lemon juice. The salad course is fresh mozzarella on slices of beefsteak tomatoes and basil leaves drizzled with olive oil. The tomatoes at the local grocery were too hard to resist today. In the Deep South we don't get such tomatoes that often. The ones I got reminded me of my youth in Chicago when we could get awesome beefsteak tomatoes.
The children will have "meat" (the roast without the sauce) and micro-waved mashed potatoes. There will be plenty of the good stuff if the children are so inclined and I would be overjoyed if they gave any of it a taste.

havnt been keeping up.
been on a quinoa kick as of late.
homemade marinara , chickpeas, and swiss chard over quinoa (in place of pasta)

riding to the beach = local fruit on the way

Pint of strawberries down the hatch.

Lots of grilling thus far of the local CSA veggies.

The rest has been beer.
