Bicycling in Costa Rica

I'm planning a two-week vacation in Costa Rica in January and I'd like to know a bit more about the roads there.

I've heard stories about dangerous conditions on some roads and highways. Which roads should I avoid and which should I choose?

There are college kids, bilingual, nice folks that make their living guiding; jeep tours, nature, night life...
Don't fret, they'll oblige. One of the very best Latin American countries by our sensibilities , towards us.
Besides, it's not amall of a country, do you think members will know ? I guess anything's possible.
