Well, that's disappointing. I'm leaving on my tour May 22nd, and at this point there's just about no chance it'll be in before I need to depart.

I've heard the boat is scheduled to arrive May 15th. So maybe there is a chance we'll see them after all.

"... they are expecting the Soma Saga by the end of the month (May)."

That was in my inbox this morning. Crap.

I'm seriously considering ordering a Long Haul Trucker at this point.

Merry (the distributor) said yesterday that the boat is still arriving tomorrow and that frames are getting sent out next week. So I suspect the end of May is actually going to be the accurate date that they start appearing in most shops.

Wow. What handlebars are those? They seem very short, drop wise.

It is an FSA Wing. I love this bar because it is very ergonomic; the flat part provides a very natural grip. I have the same bar on my randonneur bike (Salsa Casseroll). The drops are indeed shallower than most drop bars, so you don't get an aggressive position in the drops. Since I am a fairly slow rider, I haven't any problems

If you mount a lot of things (multiple lights etc) then the flat part doesn't help.

No, it is a 54cm, the biggest size you can get with 26" wheels. The Saga frames size up bigger than many other frames because of the long head tube.

may i ask how tall you are? i'm trying to decide on size and i feel like i am a little short for the 56cm, but i have an existing 700c wheel-set that i would prefer to use.

I'm about 5' 10" and will be getting 56cm. For reference on the LHT, I found the top tube on the 56cm too high, but the reach on the 54cm too short, so it seemed that the 56 Saga, with approximately the same reach as the 56 LHT and sloping top tube would be just the right fit. I'll know better when it gets built up this week (hopefully).

I'm somewhere between 5'6" to 5' 7". As you know, leg/torso lengths also affect what size frame is right for you. The general consensus seems to be to get a frame that is on the higher side of the fit. Perhaps someone knowledgeable about the Grant Petersen school of frame sizing could elaborate on that.

I'm 5'11", and ordered a 58cm. I have a long torso, and like the top of my (drop) bars at least level with the saddle.

thanks for the info, everyone. i'm between 5'9" - 5'10" ( with ~ a 31.5" inseam and what i would consider a normal torso length ) but i am accustom to a bit of a smaller frame, so i was unsure where this might fall. i'll talk to the local shop that is a soma dealer and see if they have some helpful insight as well.

I'm 5'10" with a 32-1/2" inseam and the 54 is a perfect fit for me with an 80mm 17 degree stem, flipped.

Has anyone received confirmation that the frames have landed in the US?

For those of you still looking for the Saga frame, I spoke to someone from Outside Outfitters on the phone on Friday. He assured me they could get a 56cm for me within 1-2 weeks . I ordered the 56cm later that evening and checked back today and it says that size is now unavailable.

I emailed them (about the 58cm), and got the same response. I was hoping they might have received their shipment, but when they said 1-2 weeks, I figured I'd just stick with bikemania.biz (where I ordered my 58).

What I heard on Friday is that the bikes are in Oakland, CA, and should be getting out to the shops sometime this week.

If I don't get some sort of definitive answer this week, I'm going to cancel my order and just get a Surly LHT.

I've dealt with custom framebuilders who have missed delivery dates by significantly less time than SOMA has with the Saga.

I emailed another retailer, and they said that SOMA was still out of 58cm (and 56cm) frames. For grins, I tried ordering from SOMA's webstore, and those sizes were shown as unavailable after putting them in the shopping cart. I asked bikemania.biz to contact SOMA/Merry Sales, and they're waiting on a response.

the shipping dude from outside outfitters called me last night to let me know that my 56cm should arrive ( to indianapolis ) sometime middle next week. he was very apologetic that it was longer than their normal turnaround time.

So, for those of you who have completed your builds--what do you think of the bike?
