What is your climbing weapon of choice?

as I went up sugarloaf during the race, only 2 people went past me and that happened on the final lap.

the slowest speed going up sl, was 9.3 mph, cadence of 81, but as I went up, the speed increased to around 10-12mph and power was always peeked over 500 watts... and just over 600 on the final lap.

It was tough, but fun.

I suppose if you live in Floriduh and you have little time to train on "hills'' something like this can be a leg breaker..if you are a real climber short steep climbs are harder for you than long relentless ones..I'll take my chances against WR at Ft Davis but he'd eat me alive on the short steep rollers we get in most races.

Cadence at 12 mph in a 39 x 27 is 101 rpm.

I have no idea how slow they did it in the 4s. I do have data for 35+.

Yes, I agree that Ford's choice of cassette was overkill. I only packed a 12-23. I think I actually did use the 23 a couple of times.

But you are also forgetting that I used that 27 with the big ring at various times in other hills...

I never had to shift to the small ring on any of the other hills + I could keep a comfortable cadence.

Just out of curiosity, if you just popped the 27 in without changing the chain, how close were you to ripping your derailer off, especially considering you were probably hammering in the 53-27?

There was no problem with the RD reach using the 27t and the same chain as on my regular 23t.

The key with the other hills is to have enough momentum to carry you up it. I found myself spinning out the 53x18 a couple of times going up one or two of them.
