Is anyone here planning on riding the Tour De l'Alberta on 25 July?

    I'm thinking of it.

I am. I registered for the 100km route. I live in Morinville so it's very convenient!

I just discovered that once registered you can change your mind and ride any distance you like. I'm finding the idea of riding the 185 over the 100 mighty tempting now.

Aaron, go for it. It'll be good practice for your tour.

    +1

And the 185km is 46% less expensive per KM than the 100km.

That's a very clever way of looking at it!

I burned off 100 km on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming 185 this Sunday. It was a bit breezy, but that's good practice, right?

Anyway, I'll probably be riding this bike on Sunday:

If you see a thin 30-something guy riding a bike that looks like this (note the white handlebar tape), that's probably me, so feel free to say hi. (Oh yeah, the bike now has two black bottle cages instead of the one silver cage.)

Not sure how this'll show up, but this is my ride for the Tour. It now has clipless pedals and barends since this picture.

The weather forecast is looking pretty decent: 23C and 15 km/h winds. A bit breezy, perhaps, but nothing too terrible. The problem is that the wind will be against us for the final stretch home. No help for our weary legs!

What a ride. That last grind between Redwater and Gibbons almost killed me, but I made it. Never have I been this sore, or this happy that I followed through on something like this. How was your ride(s)?

Aaron, congratulations on your first century! This was only my second. I had a great ride, finishing a lot quicker than I expected. I was fortunate in that last stretch to hook up with a guy who offered to work together with me, so we traded off pulling/drafting for the last 40 km or so which made a big difference. He was a faster rider than me, but that proved to be very motivational. I was in some pretty incredible pain by the time we crossed the finish line, but it'll pass. I think I need a better saddle for these rides.

registered again this year. It looks like 2011 will be the same route as 2010.

Probably won't ride this year, unless other plans fall through.
