prime lap (prounouced PREEM) is a race within a race - whoever wins that particular prime can quit the race and collect the prime. Sometimes it's a field prime, if there's a group ahead. Other times it's a "first over the line". It can even be for solo riders, like at a big race sometimes a hardy fighter, off the back, may get a prime thrown at him as a mercy prime ("20 bucks if he can last another lap!").

    cdr

*edit* since it's not the actual finish, fewer people contest primes. Therefore it's a good way to break into "contesting stuff". You go for a prime, figure out how win them, then you go for the win.

Awesome stuff as always CDR! I was really pulling for you and glad to see that you won the series, and I saw the jersey of my LBS there (James Vincent Bicycles) so good to see them representing.

I'll start, this is a new video I've been working on, from my group ride last Saturday. A large group with a lot of local racers head out along the scenic side roads of highway 192 and 150, and up the two climbs of Casitas Pass. Some people turn around at the top of second climb, and some continue on around the lake. This video starts with the turn onto highway 192, and ends when I got dropped from the main group on the climb. I just had no energy, an off day.

The second and third parts are uploading and I will post them as they are ready.

I'm sure people will ask, the camera is a VHoldR ContourHD (720), and I used DashWare to overlay GPS, power, and HR data onto the video.

That Carissa seems like she can be really annoying. Homophobic as well, nice.

She was joking around, that was her husband.

Edit: And considering your thread about golfing, you aren't exactly a good judge of anything.

So, according to that logic that it was her husband, she could infer that there is a "*****" in a gay relationship and it isn't offensive because it was her husband who she was referring to? Video doesn't lie, she's annoying.

Thin skinned much? I have gay friends who would laugh at this, or who will make much the same joke, I don't see the problem.
Do you think we're gonna make it? / I don't know unless we try \ you could sit here scared to move / or we could take them by surprise

Indeed. Many videos containing a high awesome quotient hereabouts! Keep the unrelated prattle elsewhere. I want to see more videos!

The one on the left is the average speed of the "lap" segment, and I didn't account for the time that we were stopping fixing a flat.

This is two laps from crit practice yesterday, both field primes (there was a break off the front). The clip start as we come down the start/finish straight and you can hear banging on the light pole indicating that the next lap is a prime. We go around and the next lap they bang the pole again for another prime. Coming around the final corner of lap 27, about 2:50 into the clip, I realize nobody is making a move so I hit it and fly up the right side into a strong head/crosswind and take it.

UMD, are these practices actually "races" or is this just a group that rides the course, kind of?

It looks like group rides for folks that aren't out for a leisurely joy-ride

They are unsanctioned weekly training race series. The same course is also used for some sanctioned races, without cars on the course...

Vid I took Saturday last week (April 24th):

Tech details: Camera - drop mounted GoPRO HD @720P 30 FPS setting, Telemetry overlay app - homebrew which I am still working on when I find the time. It can display power info too but I don't have a sensor for power right now.

Nice video! Looks like it was an awesome ride! Re: the homebrew app... I hope your actual heart wasn't beating as erratically as the flashing heart appears to be indicating!

Thanks Bean, the beauty of that ride is that it happens every Sat, Sun, and holidays, year round (including winter). All you have to do is show up assuming you know the risks involved in doing so. The heart animation is one of the things I need to work on next
