So I'm looking at accepting a job in Colorado. I'd work from home but need to be near pueblo(yeah I know) since that's where my clients would be. I keep hearing pueblo itself isn't too nice, but I need some help finding nice places to live in the area. Anywhere clean with riding available(mountain or road) and some nighlife if possible. Co springs would be too far I think. How is Fountain? I'm feeling lost here so any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Check out Canon City - I have only spent a weekend in the area, but it seemed pretty nice. I know there's some road riding around there, and there's a good rock climbing (sport) area - Shelf Road. I didn't notice any nightlife, but I wasn't looking for it.

Colorado Springs is really only 35 miles north of Pueblo and it is not a bad commute unless it is snowing. This would make it bad about 10 days a year on average. Pueblo West is not a bad area, but in the middle of nowhere. Fountain, Widefield and Security are mainly folks who are stationed at Ft. Carson so if you are prior military you might like it. The rule of thumb in Colorado Springs is the further north you get in the town the quote "safer" the area. I lived there from 1992 to 1999 and it has not really changed much. There is no night life in Pueblo and it is ok in the Springs, but most people end up in Denver for real night life. Hope this helps and good luck with your move.
Lots of people commute to Pueblo from Canon City, Florence, and Penrose. My folks live in Canon City. It's a nice place. Quiet, esablished, and affordable. The average age of the CC resident has been steadily decreasing for about the last 15 years. It used to feel almost like a retirement community, but the demographic is getting younger and there are more things for younger folks to do. I don't know if I would call it "bike friendly" necesarrily, but there is plenty of nearby road and mtn biking available. Nightlife....ummmm, you could drag main with the teenagers, or hang out in one of the many dive bars. If nightlife is high on your priority list, Colorado Springs is your best bet.
Considering where else there is to live in this great land, Pueblo is not that bad. Like my Air Force recruiter said, back in the 80's - "No matter where you are stationed, it's what you make of it."

FWIW, commuting from COS to Pueblo on a daily basis is not really practical. Even Fountain to Pueblo is a stretch. Pueblo West is nice, and much closer.

There are some excellent mountain bike trails around Pueblo Reservoir, as well as to the west in the Wet and Sangre de Christo mountains, you are in for a treat on both road and mountain bikes in this area. Good luck with the move.
Pueblo West has evolved into a very livable area- I commute to the springs (Colorado Springs) from PW- yes, we call it pw.... Not bad at all. Only 2-3 days in the winter when it is a bother. I ride a hilly road route, 25-30 miles on my touring bike and usually only pass 3-5 cars. Plenty of off road riding around the resevoir- Think ( mini Fruita co). If you are younger, there is definaitely more to do in the Springs at night. Housing prices are very reasonable and the lots are MUCH bigger than the city. I suggest you rent for a while before you settle in for the long haul. Also, let you clients guide you as far as Pueblo goes . . It is a much nicer place than most folks realize. Not a lot of nightlife in Pueblo, but the downtown Springs area is ok. If you don't mind being a little more isolated, look south of Pueblo, around Rye, Colorado City, and Buelah (personally, I would love to live in Beulah). More of a rural feel, but a very beautiful area and much better riding than right around Pueblo (which is really pretty flat). Like someone else said, Pueblo itself is pretty nice compared to some other possibilities. I would take Florence or Penrose over Fountain any day of the week - about equidistant from the Springs and Pueblo and much closer to decent riding. As for the commute from the Springs to Pueblo, it's not a big deal. Depending on where in the Springs you are, it's 30-60 minutes, maybe, which is about the same as my commute, and I live in a suburb of Denver. All depends on what you're used to, I guess.
