I'm using this same mount with cyclemeter. Works great and it's pretty solid. It is not water proof or even really water resistant. I usually put the phone in a small ziplock then put it in this mount for a light mist. Anything heavier and its packed away in the panniers. The mount is the Ibera Iphone mount. I use the stem-mount version.

Runkeeper is great and is free. I've been using this mount for about a month now and it's great. You can detach your phone from the mount if you need to and it covers the entire phone with a snapping "case" that really protects the phone. I also feel like the phone is safer since it's totally enclosed and not just snapped into place. Unless your whole bike falls the phone isn't going anywhere no matter how many bumps you hit. I didn't use mine on the stem but instead used an old reflector mount that fit perfectly so it's higher up on my handlebars. If you have a case on your phone you'll have to remove it to fit it in the casing though. Not a huge deal though.

I've been using Cyclemeter for several months and it's generally a very useful app, with a few reservations. What I like about it is the clean, simple interface and usability. I also like that you can use it for walking, running, paddling and other activities. The mapping features are great for looking at after a ride.

My reservations are several. First, it doesn't accurately record distances. I run often run it during my rides with my regular bike computers at the same time. Cyclemeter seems to under-report distances, often by several miles on longer rides. I've got four different road bikes with computers, and I've set the wheel size on them using the roll-out method, so I think they record distances pretty accurately -- eg, they all report close to the same distance for my regular bike commute route, usually within 0.1-.2 mile over 10 miles.

Secondly, it also seems to under-report times, altho I do have the feature turned on that stops the timer when you aren't moving. However, my bike computers all have the same feature and they consistently show longer times than Cyclemeter over the same distances.

I am running the Dahon Biologic Reecharge (got it on eBay, $99 shipped). I dislike the factory mounting method, so I soldered my own jack into the dyno output, and mounted it on my headlight bracket. I then soldered the matching plug onto the Biologic wiring. I keep the Biologic in my handlebar bag. My dyno output is more than sufficient to keep both the Biologic and my iPhone 3GS fully charged, with GPS on.

In terms of mounting the iPhone, I don't have a mount yet... I just keep it in one of the bag pockets that's facing the handlebar, so I can lift it out to see it while I'm riding.

I just tried out MotionX GPS, and without bothering to read through dizzying array of settings and options before heading out on my ride, I failed to capture GPS data. Turned out it was a setting in my iPhone that was not right. Once I figured that out, MotionX seemed to work fine (but I cheated-- it was in the car). I can't speak to its accuracy, but so far it seems like a very capable app.

I use the ibike console on the bike. I also bought a motorcycle mount and I've used that on my dual-sport bike and the iphone is safe, steady, and easily visible.

It's the only mount that I've seen that is strong enough to handle off-road motorcycling without breaking. And I don't want to lose my iphone any more than any of you do.
