    Stolen White 2008 LOOK 585

My bike was stolen on Wednesday night in Sunnyvale. The video of the individuals taking the bike is below. I have pictures of my bike coming soon. The details of my bike are white 2008 LOOK 585 with Campagnolio Record group set. Campagnolio ZONDA wheel set and LOOK carbon pedals. White Selle Italia saddle and black handle bar tape. Carbon Easton bars and seat post! Please keep on the look out and if you happen to recognize the individuals who stole it, please let me know.

Good luck, but why would you leave your bike unlocked and unattended in a public place?

Must say to leave it unlocked you were asking for it!!!!
Now sent that video to the local TV stations and have it shown! you might get lucky.
But don't leave a bike alone unlocked unless you don't want it as you found out can't say under the circumstances I fill sorry for you not very bright.
But do hope you recover it or at least parts.
It may not be fancy but it gets me were I need to go.

Good luck getting the bike back. I guess I'm biased but I don't really care about car theft. Bike theft, on the other hand, really bugs me. Sadly, the legal system finds car theft to be a serious crime while bike theft often won't even warrant a police report.

I left the Bay Area thirty years ago. I left CA ten years ago. It took me a while to adjust the the higher levels of theft in the Sacramento area. I will never adjust to the constant annoying background of thefts in OR. I initially thought I was seeing a geographical difference in this regard. Stories like yours are causing me to reconsider. It is likely just the meaner times we live in that is responsible for the differences I see.

    Hey. Blame the victim much?
Can't a person blink and not have their stuff stolen? Like none of ever leans their bike somewhere just for a moment.
Heck, it's even indoors. Give this guy a break.

Hope you find your bike, and I'm wishing really bad stuff on the thieves.

OK folks, I've added pictures. I know it was a stupid thing to leave it unlocked. But I did bring it inside the restuarant and I was sitting about 20' away. Just goes to show you how stupid I was. Anyway, I just want my bike back!

Forgot to mention, the only changes on the bike from when the pics were taken back in 2008 are: The handle bar tape is now black, I have a different bicycle computer (Garmin) and the tires are Continental Gator Skin!

I agree it's not classy to harsh on someone when he's down--that looks like a really nice bike. If you go on long solo rides, there are going to be times when you bike may be briefly out of sight. For instance, I don't expect anyone to take my bike when I go into the Pescadero general store-- I guess it could happen, but I'd resent a cacophony of "you're stupid" afterwards.

One small thing I've done as a security measure when parking a bike, is to attach my helmet to one of the wheels--if you're sitting in a coffee shop with the bike out of arm's reach but in view, it could delay a thief by a few conspicuous seconds.

The vintage frames that I ride have horizontal drop-outs. If you undo the rear QR lever and someone tries to roll off with it or on it, the rear wheel comes out and locks up the works - hopefully long enough for you to emerge and administer the beating.

Sorry to hear about your bike. Are the Sunnyvale police being helpful? That video seems incredibly useful, but I don't know where this falls on the priority list for them. Are you checking craigslist postings?

Just say your name is "Lance Armstrong." I bet that'll help.

Not that I would mind seeing a bloody bike thief becoming the laughing stock of all witnesses around but doesn't purposely releasing your rear quick release makes you vulnerable to potential law suits if the thief gets badly hurt and his lawyer tries to convince a jury you had intention to hurt a poor guy who was just testing how an old bike feels?

I hope abnson recovers his bike soon. The surveillance video should be of great help to the PD. And, yes, I agree about the comments that no one should have to worry about leaving a possession unchecked. Unfortunately the reality is what it is.

I am not 100% sure on this, but I saw a white Look bike at the SF Bike Expo Swap meet that sorta looked like yours. Can't remember for sure. I believe it was sold b/c I saw someone in a car ride away with it on top of his/her car.

I am serious. Maybe you can contact the folks at the SF Bike Expo. They seem to be really responsive folks. I emailed them a few times about details on the expo and they emailed me back pretty quick. Maybe they can help with leads.

Again, I know it was a white modern Look bike, but I can't say for sure if it looked exactly like yours. Good Luck.

This is really disturbing if it was your bike because I witness other possible stolen bikes there. For example, I also overheard a conversation in regards to a great condition Orange Bridgestone XO-1 bike that a thin Asian kid had that he was trying to sell. He told a potential buyer that it was "given by a friend to him", the buyer smartly said: "nice friend". I can tell from the sound of the buyer's voice that he was not buying the sellers story too. Totally sketchy b/c this kid did not have a space reserved for him as a legit seller, he was just walking around with "his" bike trying to unload it. There were other sellers to that did this. Makes me wonder.

If that really was abnson's bike all the way up in SF, that's a little frightening. Bike thieves being well-connected and knowledgeable of the "bike scene" enough to know immediately to cart a bike lifted in Sunnyvale up to a swap meet in San Francisco... yeesh.

I saw this bike tonight, about 6:45 at the Tasman light rail station in San Jose. It was most definitely this bike, not one like it. All the details match, right down to the water bottle cages, pump zip-tied to the frame, and saddle. A young teenage kid had it. He's not the one shown stealing it in the video, he's way too young . I knew it had to be stolen; it's just not the kind of bike a kid like that would ordinarily buy, so I tried to memorize the details. I wanted to say something to him, but he had friends with him (plus the rest of the platform was filled with teenagers who made me kind of uneasy) and I am a small woman and was alone. I was pretty sure I couldn't do anything useful, which really bothered me. I didn't know what to do. He got onto the Alum Rock train with it. Wish I could offer something better than this snippet of information.

Thanks ro-monster, party guessed it would be still around the Bay Area and it's nice to know it wasn't parted out or spray painted to conceal it. There really isn't much that can be done unfortunately unless you have the persons name and address. I'm glad you didn't confront the guy. Stay safe, bike is not worth something bad happening to you. Besides, my home insurance policy covered up to 80% of an exact replacement. So I went cheaper by going on bikesdirect and bought a Kestrel RT-800 with Dura-Ace group-set. With the money I saved, I upgraded the wheels to American Classic Aero 420's, got nice wide 44cm bars and Gel saddle. It looks sharp! Still, I miss the LOOK and Campagnolio Record! I will be switching back to Campy when I change again :-) And anyway, I'm now living in Singapore for the next year or so. I did call Sunnyvale PD before I re-located over here to inform them of my move but they told me the case is now inactive because my insurance paid out.

    Anyway, thanks again..

If it's any comfort, it looked to be in good condition aside from the chain needing lube. Not much wear on the tires, and even the seat bag is still on it. Glad to know you at least got an insurance settlement.

La Dolce Velo recovered the bike today. Two kids from the local high school came in to our shop a few days ago with this crazy story about a Look that was given to them by their uncle. They had no idea what they had. Eventually, they brought the bike in. Our store manager found this posting and the links to the video and pictures. The kids still stuck to their uncle story when the cops picked them up. Since Alan is in Singapore, he will probably never see the bike. I believe the bike is on its way back to the Sunnyvale Police Department. Hopefully, the bike will find its way to a good home eventually.
