What is a fair price for a Cannondale R500 Triple (2004)?

    Hi,

I am interested in buying a Cannondale R500 Triple, which I think is a 2004. It also comes with helmet and shoes, which I don't need and they are asking $450. I am a retired racer who ruined my 1985 Cannondale rear rim and just wanted a decent bike to ride with my kids.

Depends on condition and location. Why not just get a new rear wheel for ye olde C'dale?

Use Ebay completed auctions. I'd say $300-350 in good shape, but there seems to be a lot of local variability in pricing of used bikes, so it depends on yoru market.

    Hi Lester of Puppets,

You responded to my post of buying a used Cannondale because I ruined my rear wheel and mentioned buying a new one. I did get a price of about $150 (new rim, spokes and labor), but didn't know if I wanted to put that much money towards an old bike. I have tried a bit to find a used wheel on Craigslist, but no luck. I have a 6 speed free wheel. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. I think the wheel/tire is a 700x23 (which may not be right because I am going by distant memory). I checked with a few people who restore old bikes, but they tend to only have the cheaper bikes.

    Thank you

Run an ad on CL, wanted to buy, used rear 700C, wheel for vintage, 6 speed freewheel. Some guys have old wheels and will sell you an old set cheap. Actually, you can buy a 7 speed rear wheel if it has freewheel threads. It may not even need to be re-dished. It costs nothing to try.
BTW, $450 for the o4 bike is just a tad high. If it's in good shape, needing no repairs at all, try to get the bike for $400.
