Norway july 2011 need advice please. Important.

Hello: next summer I would like to visit norway by bike. I have not pick up information yet, but I need to buy the “flight ticket” now as each day are more expensive. I’m from spain and I will fligth to oslo.

I have not idea about routes or place to visit ( not yet), but question ARE:

1-how many days will be fine? I thought 15 but maybe it’s not enough. Advice please….
I could make about 75 km each day ( not with rain, maybe 40 km with rain).

Later I have other questions,any advice is welcome.

3-i will arrive ryg airport at 23.30 pm. It’s possible to load our bikes at train or bus to oslo?
4- will be open camping or hostels at 1.00 am or 2.am?

5-any recommendation about routes? I don’t like to use train or bus but I know I will need them.

Are you leaving from Rygge as well ? What do you want to see in Norway ? What kind of bikes are you riding ? If the weather is nice I would suggest you find a nice place to set up camp not so long from Rygge Airport and ride into Oslo the next day.
In fair weather it will not get very dark in the beginning of july, it's quite nice to ride in the middle of the night. In all of Norway you can camp anywhere in all areas that are not fenced in or where crops are growing. If you need a campsite there is one at the very southern part of Oslo called Oslo Fjordcamping, I do not think that would be open so late at night.

Don't know if your post meant you were going in July 11 or July 12---Here are some thoughts:

1) It is a great train ride from Oslo to Bergen to get to the fjord region in the Western 1/3 slice of the country
2) from there you can move to points north and northeast from Bergen.
3) if you plan to pack for solo riding and camping this can be done on the roads--
4) roads in fjord country are basically 1.5 lanes wide---little traffic though
5) off road expect very steep tracks---many Norwegians run the hills after dinner---no wonder they are all so fit compared to the schlubs on the cruise ships that roll into town for 1/2 day
6) easily can bike until midnight in July---it only gets pseudo dusky at about 1:30 in the AM through about 5 am.
7) can pretty much go anywhere int he country because there is a rule in Norway that they must allow visitors not heir land---it stems from their spirit of openness and they want people to experience their beautiful country---nonetheless, probably should be either discreet or ask if intend to camp on someone's land rather than a designated campground
8) if you can get there go to Jotteheimen National PArk---several hours north of Oslo----should find some tremendous off road and road riding there and it literally is a glacier park in the middle of nowhere!!!
