I checked out his website and the pictures there look like they don't do his frames justice!

I'm thinking you should build it up with some nice vintage gray anodized rims (wolber, matrix, mavic MA-40), skinwall tires, non-aero brakes with brown gum hoods... i think the ultimate groupset would be Campy Record with the Century finish (http://www.tearsforgears.com/2009/03...ry-finish.html). maybe some white cable housing (or yellow if you're feeling adventurous)... and a Cinelli Unicantor or Laser saddle in dark brown suede or buffalo hide.
Beautiful!!
What's going on with the right side brake lever though? And that saddle angle needs to be fixed.
Wow, what a stunner! Nice to see it finished.

So glad I found this thread. Allan has my restoration project. A circa 1945 Italian hand built bici he is going to paint and decal. Seeing your pics really puts me at ease knowing nothing but a quality job will be done. Now I really can't wait to get that back and build it back up. I'll post pics.
Al is awesome. He refinished this Merckx frame for me last year:

Hard at work in the Secret Underground Laboratory...
I have a number of projects that should be squirted with paint. I will have to have him look at them.

i like how you used a dura ace 7410 crank instead of the 7400 series, i always thought that one looked better, i have a full 7410 grouppo on my pinarello with 8 speed brifters, just waiting for hubs. I love the look of the group, probably one of the best looking vintage groups from japan, this one and superbe pro of course...
No thanks.
Been there, done that.
Period correct has its limitations, and I won't go back to anything less than 10 speed Campy on a new build at this point.
I've raced bikes with C-Record and 7400 though, and I'd take the 7400 before the C-Record any day of the week.
maybe one do i shall try 10 speed, i just really like how the c-record looks. and yes i know dura ace functions better for that age for sure. i have both groups on 2 different bikes. they are both gorgeous groups. unfortunately they're still pricey to get ahold of, well the c-record especially, but it just makes finding that complete group just that much more special
one day i shall own 10 speed, one day...
I love the looks of C-Record, but I raced for a shop that offered steep discounts to folks that ran Shimano.
It was very inexpensive at the time, and bulletproof.
I raced various Colnago Supers and two RB-1s back in the day.
They all had Shimano, and I was equally slow on all of them.![]()
