LOL, I knew it! Here goes...

I've been planning on getting a Fuji Classic Track for a while now. Hopefully will be test riding one this weekend. I know everyone here is all "LOL, overpriced" but I'm super short with a very short inseam and the Fuji comes in a 43cm frame with 650c wheels. My options at this size are limited, to say the least.

Well lo and behold, the Kilo TT now comes in a 44cm! This must be a new development, because I've looked into it before and the smallest was a 47. I assume it's still 700c wheels because the standover looks to be about 2+cm higher than the Fuji. I like that the Kilo comes with a flip-flop hub; this will be my first ss/fg bike and I've never ridden fixed before. Shhh, don't tell anyone but I'm a bit terrified of riding the Fuji because it only comes fixed. I am so going to eat it on my test ride. But I also like the idea of the 650 wheels, seems more proportional on a tiny frame.

Are any of the pics in this thread of the 44cm size, or has anyone seen the 44cm Kilo? Is the top tube sloped (which always seems to happen on these small frames)? I'd love to year y'all's thoughts on the Fuji vs. TT. Or can I just predict the continued chorus of "Get the TT!" from here?

There has always been a 44cm Kilo TT, but it is more like a 47cm, since the frame is sized c-c. The problem for you is not so much the standover, but the fact that there will be severe toe overlap with the front wheel and the head tube will be much higher than the top of the seat tube, so you will probably be forced to position the bars higher than the seat. There is significant slope to the top tube. I'd stick with the Fuji or look for another bike with 650c wheels such as the IRO Mark V HD (Heidi).

I agree with the others who have said toe overlap will be a significant issue. I ride a 47cm and it is a perfect size for me with 28.75" inseam. Even at 47cm I feel 700c looks a bit big.

I recommend that you go with the Fuji 650c not only for appearance, but rather performance:

- the wheels are sized more proportionately to the frame size yielding a more balanced feel
- the wheels will accelerate slightly better
- smaller wheels means lower standover height
- smaller wheels reduces the severity of toe overlap.

How tall are you? Just wondering. My girlfriend is about 5'2" and she still has to tip toe over the top tube of the 44cm kilo I just her.

I personally think it looks kinda cool, but the seatpost is a bit slammed and the stem has to be pretty close to the headset.

For sure you are a candidate for a bike with 650c wheels. I'm 5' 3" with a 28" inseam and still can't stand over some of my 49cm track bikes with 700c wheels. Also remember that a track bike will have a higher BB than a road bike, so the standover height will be higher for a given seat tube length. i have a rando touring bike with 650b wheels, and it is a much better fit for me with plenty of standover and toe clearance with the front wheel. Something else you might consider down the road is getting shorter cranks than 165mm.

I was thinking just this for my girlfriend. Maybe 160mm eighthinch cranks and going from M to S toeclips?

Are you saynig you put 650b wheels onto your track bike, or that your bikes with 650 wheels are better fitted for you?
