    First white tail for me

    Hi,

Here's my first white tail. I hope to have more! I've enjoyed reading all the posts about Raleighs and English 3 speeds too.

Custom paint almost certainly, but I think it will have to be a steel Raliegh fender.

Watch Ebay. People part out blue ones from time to time. I got a rear fender for one of mine (it wasn't exactly right but if you're patient the right one will rear it's ugly head)

These are plentiful -- in brown and black.

The question is: how to match the paint. I've never done that before.

Yes, the bike came to me as an absolute disaster, leaving a trail of rust on the way to my shop. The frame and fenders/stays were done in British racing green; the "whitetail" came out of a spray can. I did add the cable stops, as well as a set of bottle braze-ons and pump pegs. I even found a set of stainless steel rims on Ebay. Not exactly an "accurate restoration", but as the bike was meant for centuries and such (and is not exactly a rare model) I felt okay about doing it.

The great big bell, BTW, came from a New Zealander living in Japan, who has a fantastic blog about his three speeding adventures in that country. Hope it's not too commercial for the thread, but he's a really nice guy and has plenty of bells left! http://3speedtouringinjapan.blogspot.com/

    What, no more WT's?

I'll have one to post a picture of if I can get off dead center and get it re-finished.

This one is the inspiration for this thread, but I got the wheels rebuilt and it's got new life!
