Looking for rides around Portland OR

    Hello,

I'll be in Portland next weekend, and I plan to bring the bike down. Staying at the in-laws' place by Clackamas Town Center.

I'm hoping to get in a good 60 mile ride while I'm down there. Any suggestions on routes starting from the Milwaukie area?

    Thanks!

North to the Columbia River, East to Multnomah Falls. Almost exactly 60 miles round trip. Saturday looks better than Sunday.

Wow, that looks like a great ride. How is riding on the Columbia River Hwy? Is it pretty bike-friendly? Thanks!

The CRH (also called Historic Columbia River Hwy, HCRH) is fantastic. Roads are narrow in some places once you start climbing, but traffic is low and the drivers are generally courteous.

If you really like climbing, just past the Woman's Forum Viewpoint (or Chanticleer viewpoint) there is a fork in the road, down leads to Crown Point and Multnomah Falls, up leads to Larch Mtn. Road. Larch Mtn Rd rises for several miles, there are a few short & steep pitches but mostly it's just a gentle climb. The actual Larch Mtn. park is closed due to unplowed roads but the ride up to the gate is fun enough.

I'll ditto Ken- the Historic Highway is fantastic, and there's lots of riders on it so drivers are usually respectful. I've been going up and down it since I moved here and never had an issue.

If it's clear the view from Crown Point is a delight. If it's not clear it's still pretty nice.

Hey just want to say thanks for the tips. I did this ride on Sunday and it was perfect.
