    Glendora Mountain Road conditions

    Hey all,

Any of you guys ride GMR lately? How are road conditions? I am one to bomb down during descents but after reading so many stories about cyclists getting seriously injured or killed due to sand patches in the road or some loose pebbles, it makes reconsider.

I wish we could take a broom or something on the climb but damn, that would be a pain in the butt...

    Anyone have input?

Mr. Beanz would know. He's the resident GMR expert.

I was up there Thursday. There were some pebbles in the lane, but nothing too bad. If you're really worried about it; pay attention to the "downhill" lane as you're heading up.

I like to descend it as fast as possible, but I've always got an eye out for pebbles.

I was told that GMR is a lot like Chantry Flats except longer and more mountainous. Can't wait to check it out this weekend.

Have you guys eaten at the cafe?

Sorry, haven't been up there in a while. IME, the wind doesn't affect the road conditions much so I'd think it should be nice. Like Rootfest, I watch the downhill lane on the way up. Not like I'm going too fast to see what's on the other side. I have been known to corss over to dispose of a small boulder or two. Never know whose neck you might save if not your own.

I will tell you that the lower 2-3 miles is where the sand may in the turnouts if any. Take note on the climb, you wil be fine on the way down.

BUT DO NOT GO AROUND THE SAND AND INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE ON THE WAY DOWN! It is better to slow down a bit easing up through the light dirt/sand than risking a blind turn. I've gone through the dirt/sand in the turnouts many times and never had a problem.

    sorry, no cafe.

I was talking about the Mt. Baldy Lodge.

It had mixed reviews but I think anything would taste good after getting up there.

I was up there yesterday for the event ride to Baldy from GMR.

The road conditions were quite good. For my first time on that road, I thought it was a great time even though the sun burned me pretty bad.

    Can't wait till next time!
