LBS pricing - lucky for me

I bombed out on someone not showing to up to buy a frame on Saturday afternoon in Seattle so I decided to run by the bike shop there with a lot of used parts that I normally frequent. The pricing cracks me up on stuff periodically and lucky for me whoever priced the stuff was clueless.

I needed an mtb front derailleur and found a nice Deore LX for $8. Located another Suntour Vx long cage rear derailleur for $5.

But, the gem was in the box of non-descript front derailleurs. I was just about done picking through the bin when something smaller and shiny caught my eye. I pulled it out to see a Suntour Superbe Pro derailleur. I couldn't believe it had survived everyone going through the bin. $4 later I was on my way to the car and a long drive home - but I was definitely happy.

Yep - gotten lucky there a couple of times. Lot's of junk in the brake bins this weekend - same for shifters.

Soczim, did you stop at Bike Works? There was a Simplex SX610 rd in the bin for a month, when I visited last Sunday it was gone.

Its fun for me to root through those boxes because you pull up something sweet like a Superbe or a Duopar or something and to the people there its just old junk. You feel like you're getting away with something.

Hmm, I should try that here. The manager at my LBS let me go through his pile of quill stems. Maybe he has other parts worth snagging.

Great feeling indeed! Like finding buried treasure. Boy could I go for a Superbe Pro for only $4! I've been needing its endless band clamp, but every source has been magnitudes more money than the original cost of the FD.

yeah my 126mm Sante 7 speed freehub laced to a mavic open pro rim for $25 from the LBS was another one of those "get this old junk out of here" scores

Haven't been too successful at Bikeworks or Recycled for gems lately.
But for run of the mill stuff (DiaCompe brakes for example) it has been successful.

Actually was delivering a bike to another C&V'er that I had picked up for him. Just happened to have the frame for sale as well. Only 130 miles - nice drive considering I do it several times a week.

Darn, the Superbe must have shown up recently. I noticed the Vx & not one, not two, BUT THREE Deore triple FD's for $5-8 the last time I was in...ended up going with a triple 105 for $5. Found a SunTour V-GTLuxe in their free pile outside.

For whatever reason I don't think they're clueless about the value, they seem to be OK pricing nearly everything far below the current Ebay/CL value. Good for them/us.
