OK I'm hooked (or at least interested)

The wife and I did a ride with the West Palm Beach "FreakBike Militia" and we had fun. Enough to where we'll do it again.

So, being roadies, we throw most of our $ at our roadbikes but I'd like to customize the Schwinn cruiser she rode but on the cheap. I see "springer" forks for 26" wheels on the web for ~50$. I figure that's a cost effective and significant change all in one.

So....Is it just a fork swap? Do I lose the front brake (cantilevers)?

    Other thoughts?

Yeah, you lose ability to mount a front brake. It is just a fork swap. Most people don't need a front brake when they cruise. I need one because I like speed, and don't always pay attention. Cruisers look cool, and are fun to ride.

    Thanks!

Rear brake doesn't work worth a damn but if I can improve this I might just go for it.

Go ahead and use the rear brake only. People have been doing it for years with cruisers. You just have to be observant and plan ahead.
