Riding in Bruce Peninsula

Anybody rode there? How are the roads?

Highway 6 is busy, but the roads parallel to it are very nice. North of Wiarton, take CR 9 to Lion's Head. Take CR 29 out of Lion's Head to Forty Hills Road. It's unpaved, but hard packed, so easy to ride. It becomes East Rd. Take it to Dyers Bay Rd, and then connect back to Hwy 6 to Tobermory.

We have cycled there several times - some roads are gravel but as paul2 says most are rideable. Most is fairly flat old Ontario farm country except for near the east coastline. There are some routes here:

The National Park and Larkwhistle Garden are good places to drop by.

You can also take a ferry to Manitoulin Island for a day, some nice roads there.

The ferry to Manitoulin Island was what got me hooked on cycling. I was on a motorcycle tour of Ontario, including the Bruce Peninsula, back in 2009. When the ferry from Manitoulin docked at Tobermory, I could hear the rumble of all the motorcycles on board. But the first one off the ship were bicycle tourists.

I've ridden hwy 6 to and from Tobermory a few times with no hassle. The only serious hill is in Wiarton, uphill northbound.
The last time I was on the Chi-Cheemaun was June 16, 2000, coming from Manitoulin Island to Tobermory. The weather was fierce, and small craft had no business being on that body of water that day. Even the large vessel I was on was being tossed about to the point I thought I would be seasick.
When I disembarked at Tobermory, and began my journey south, I was passed by numerous northbound emergency vehicles with lights flashing and sirens blaring.
Later that day, I learned of the tragedy that had transpired while I was making the crossing.

Highway 6 is DEADLY on long weekends, obviously. But during the week it isnt bad. it's also just recently paved so it's really great for riding. Wiarton Hill is a *****. I hope you have low gears.
If you don't mind taking a few dirt roads i recommend getting off highway 6 though. the back roads are much more scenic.
