    NM - Sandias

Anyone road bike around the Sandias just east of Albuquerque? Seen lots of info for mountain biking but very little for roadies. Any good places to park, ride, eat, sight-see?

Yeah, lots of roadies take hwy 337 south from I-40 towards Escabosa - that's supposed to be a pretty fantastic ride. Unfortunately I don't have any good info on food/interesting stops (though I know there are plenty of good hikes along the way), but I think there is a popular coffee shop near the northern end in Tijeras.

Thanks. I rode 337 yesterday. It's a pretty good climb on the southbound leg. Saw a lot of other riders. Next time I'll corner someone and ask where the good rally points are. It's an amazing ride, wouldn't have expected it in this state. The 7,500' air kicked my ass.

337 is a great ride. There is a grocery mart (morning star?) and a cafe (chameleon cafe) that is a favorite break point for cyclists at the top the climb.

Here is a link to it http://ridewithgps.com/routes/184460

From Tijeras, you can also choose to ride 14 to the shell station or continue on up to the crest where the ski resort is.

    Damnpoor (Re: hwy 165):

Hey I got your msg but I don't post enough on this forum to be 'allowed' to submit private msgs even in reply to one (???). Apparently the minimum posting needed is 50 and I have 39. So I have to reply here:

I haven't ridden it. I did fwd your question to my neighbor who has been road cycling in the area for 30+ years. Here is his response:

"Yes. It is called 'around the mountain'. The dirt starts starts at Placitas ends at the Crest turn off above the ski area, about 7 miles of dirt, can be very rough. I have done it many times, I do it when the lobby is strong enough to convince me."
