I know of a riding group or two out in Taylor, but I'm all by my lonesome all the way down in Monroe.

There is a riding group in Livonia and one in Dearborn. One of them has rides through Hines Park in Livonia which is actually a pretty cool scenic route.

Dearborn. I confess I mainly ride just the three blocks to the local swimming pool and back.

I'm not so sure I understand the roll call, but I'll go along.

Rockwood (Just North of Monroe on exit 27 of I-75).

I don't know if it is appropriate, but if you're in the area, you might find me riding this:

Hey, Detroit here. What are some nice roads in the area? I agree, Hines Park is a good one, Belle Isle has a nice 5+ mi loop.

They finally just put bike lanes in down on Rosa Parks Blvd. out by Joe Louis Arena.

That's good news. I guess it would link up with the Michigan Ave lane? Rode from Eastern Market to Metro Beach today. There's a very nice strip of Jefferson somewhere between Moran and 9 mile. Very smooth, low traffic, nice view of the lake. Took a bike lane on St. Jean to Jefferson for a block, will have to explore another day.

edit: Went back today, it runs between Jefferson and Mack. Does anyone have the grand plans for when the bike lanes are complete?

No idea...I haven't even gotten to ride on the route yet, I just drive past them every day going to and from work.

St. Jean is a segment of the Conner Creek Greenway. When completed, it will connect the Detroit River to Eight Mile. The city of Warren is looking to continue it north to their civic center.

The three completed segments of the greenway are (1) a bike path along Conner from city airport to Harper, (2) bike lanes on St. Jean from Mack to Jefferson, and (3) bike lanes on Clairpointe/Conner from Jefferson to Maheras Gentry Park. There's also a new bike path through the park. Next year we hope to build bike lanes/route along Conner from McNichols to Eight Mile.

Royal Oak as well. You (OP) ride with the wolverine cycling club? I just moved to the area and have been doing a ride here and there with them.

    Me too

I ride a lot in Toledo, lots of club activity there, but I do ride in Michigan at least one day a week. Usually Wednesday.

I was just in Michigan & Toronto for vacation. We started in Detroit & I bought a cool old Schwinn Traveler from The Hub on Cass Ave. I rode it around the river walk area, then 2 days in downtown Toronto & the lakefront trails. Then we drove to Gaylord where I did the North Central trail while my wife drove on to Mackinaw City. We met up there & we went over to Mackinac Island for 3 days. Lots of riders there, few if any know what they're doing, but it's great place to go. Finally we drove back to Detroit & I donated the bike back to the Hub. Michigan is cool. Don't miss the Motown museum!

I've been neither visiting nor posting on here much this year.

I live in Riveview. I've been riding the same segment of Jefferson for the past few years that I've been riding my bike for fitness, mainly because of (1) the capacity (2) traffic, and (3) speed limit. This summer, I've been riding some different routes though.

I rode as far north as I've ridden on Jefferson tonight. Quite a contrast between E. Jefferson in Detroit, and then the Pointes, and what eventually turns into Lake Shore Drive. I like both. Detroit has the de facto bike lane on the right, without too many cars parked on-street, and starting in the Pointes along Jefferson/Lake Shore Drive, the roads (two lanes each way) are in a bit better condition, with less traffic and there is a nice scenic segment of Lake St. Clair as janahurt mentioned.

Also, perhaps it wouldn't have been an issue in not noticing it until the last second because of the reduced lighting near or after sunset (had two front lights), but it seems like it would be a beneficial idea to share some hazardous road spots throughout Metro Detroit and perhaps make a map on Google maps. I was afraid I messed something on my rear tire this evening after clearing my front tire from a square pot hole on the lake side of Lake Shore Drive, only to have my rear tire take the beating. Seemed OK for the following 2 hours but I'll have to check it out again. It took me by surprise because the physical condition is pretty good as I mentioned.

I believe there is the Downriver Cycling Club. They are a bit more down the river than I am and I hardly go south anymore because I prefer more of a buffer and don't like riding where there is gravel lining the shoulder on the right.

Who rides out in Taylor? I doubt there are many people in their 20's that do group rides near here. The closest thing to such a ride is the Critical Mass ride, which meets at Warren and Trumbull in Detroit @ 6:30P, the final Fridays of the month, of most months.
