There are the makings of a pretty decent SE Michigan riding crew, here. We should set up a pub ride, or at least a pub gathering.

Clinton twp mi. here. I ride all over my neck of the woods , from metro beach, to stoney creek and the orchard trail. I like to ride Jefferson/lakeshore drive too, probably my favorite ride. Its a convenient metric century for me. I also do a solo century along M29 a couple times a year, 1/2 way is at the marysville city limit sign 50.3 miles from my door. nice to see some local riders on the forum.

The Flying Rhinos out of Clarkston have a New Year's Day ride on dirt roads. Might get out there if it stays so mild.

I'm riding year long on regular MTB or Hybrid for longer trips. I'm not for speed... My average speed is always between 10 and 12mph... Heaving fun and doing miles is what i'm after ;-)
I also love doing night rides...
Contact me if you want to ride together from time to time... Way more fun with riding partner. I have few friends who r joining me from time to time... The only time I dont ride is when it's raining...
Did you go to 2012 Polar Rhino Ride in Clarkston new years day?

No I didn't. I wasn't sure if the weather would cooperate, and I ended up working.
I'll send you a PM, but here's what I did today. The purpose of it was just to get some footage of Independence Oaks. I ended up totaling 17.4 miles, at a rate of 11.5 mph.

There is of course a part 2, and I made this one spur of the moment on the way back to my house:

I've wanted to see Detroit for years, and That Car Commercial raised my interest further, so when my wife had a business trip to Toronto I jumped at the chance to add Detroit & Mackinac Island to either side of the trip.

Too much of Detroit has a Pompeii feel to it, kind of shocking really. But everyone I spoke to, and there were many, was honest and forthright about the city and its past and hopeful future. Everywhere I went I got "good morning" and "hello." We stayed downtown and there were lots of bikes on the streets and the river walk. The Hub is aptly named. I got the feeling that they are doing a lot of good.

Toronto has even more bikes downtown and excellent riding areas. Definitely plan a visit there.

Northern Michigan is very different than Detroit of course, but I got the same warm reception wherever I went. Mackinac Island is a world to itself. My wife loved it, and we'll be back.

We drove through Flint on the way back to the Detroit airport. Again, another place that has seen tough times. I guess you'd say Michigan as a whole has seen tough times, but there's a real solid core there and I got the feeling that the people are going to get through it and be better. There's a certain resolve to the place. When you visit you know you've really been somewhere, and to me that's cool.
Does this guy write Pure Michigan spots or ads for Chrysler?

Seriously, I agree with what you say and I think you said it very well. I'm reading this thread with interest....I grew up in Detroit (well, Highland Park actually) and I'm starting to think about moving back there when I retire in about 10 years. Is that weird or what?

check out Beach Rd next time you are aoubt by Squirrel...

on the other side of woodward, when you head past birmingham to crambrook and beyone it gets nice and "hilly" as well...east west connectors from royal oak to birmingham include catalpa and beverly rd, north south is pierce rd, or evergreen/crambrook, then you can take lone pine west...if you head that way, look in the map for Kirkway Rd which loops off of Long Lake Rd. Kirkway Rd is really nice!

if you sign up for strava, and look for segments north of the royal oak area, it will give you some nice stretches for riding...it can get a bit busy though...

I commute between Warren and Troy, and then up to the velodrome in Rochester.

I give a thumbs up to beat-the-train for a nice weekend morning ride through the D, although it is to friggen early in the morning for me to do regularly.

Still group rides from RO to the D have been getting more popular lately. Nice to see more bikes on the road in the city. I'll probably ride up to the Macomb-Orchard trail today (or hit Stoney Creek) and tomorrow down to the the detroit river.

I was there! 36 miles in the D was a perfect start to my weekend. Andy is always entertaining.

Hi all. Washington here. Macomb Orchard Trail, Stoney, Clinton River Trail, various small dirt back roads. Only have a few days a week to ride but would love to find some like minded folks to pedal along with.

I rode through there about an hour before you. I know that now that the trail is paved it means that more people can use it, but man I miss the old dirt path.

Hey everyone, great posts from all of you!

I just bought my first road bike in February, and it seems like it's difficult to find other road cyclists in Clinton Township and surrounding areas. I'm starting to get tired of riding the metro trail, especially alone. So it's good to see at least some kind cyclists in my area!

Was linked this thread from a post inquiring about riding in the area. I will be visiting Shelby Township, likely staying in Utica (I think was the name of where the motel is) from the 3-4 of July until the 8th. I was reading about some of these trails, but don't know the area at all, first visit, and looking on Google Maps does little to help me out in locating some of them in relation to where I will be.
Any helpful tips sure would be appreciated. I will be bringing my bike and my son's as well. Looking to do a couple of 20-30 mile morning or afternoon trips while up to see and enjoy the area.
