Brooks Select Saddles

It appears Brooks decided to offer a higher standard product. The folks at Wallbike assured me that If I was not happy with the standard hides that the new select would be very pleasing. They said the new leather is gorgeous and thicker.

I'll be giving Brooks a second chance. These new saddles come with a 3 year warranty. Hopefully it will be nice.

That's the spirit! I've read those new saddles take 30,000 miles to break in!

I once owned a Pro Select (Raleigh Team model)...it was very impressively thick leather and super hard. I gave up on it long before it broke in and sold it. Perhaps the new Selects use a different hide, but "gorgeous" is not the term I'd use to describe the leather in the vintage Selects.
"Hard" is what I'd use.
They were gorgeously well-made, anyway.

I heard they break in at 100 miles. You just need to keep up with the brooks proofide for the first few days to prep the leather. I've rode mines for about 10 miles and it already feels incredible. I can't believe that its going to get even softer still.

This is the B15 Swallow Select I am using for a build this winter.

Matching the bar tape will be a bit of a pain, but I've seen the saddle in person, and it will be well worth it.

Don't over do the proofide. Use it a couple of times a year and your saddles will last years, even decades. When it goes soft, it's all downhill from there.

It's your arse that breaks in at 100 miles.

Riding on my Brooks Pro during the 1977 Arkansas State Championship Road Race in a major downpour (long story) is what ultimately molded it to my arse.

Oh, yeah . . .

I've got a '79 NOS Pro Select. After about 200 miles it's becoming tolerable.....

I got the B17 Champion Flyer. Treated it with the Brooks proofide for 2 days. 40 miles later it was broken in. This is by far the most comfortable seat I've ever rode on.

Dang, I've had an ordinary Brooks B17 on my bike 27 years, still looks like new... I think I Proofhided it once.

Interesting marketing strategy Brooks has. They raised the price and make them not as well, then charge even more to sell you a supposed good one.

When is the supposed glut of saddles from all the abandoned fixies going to hit ebay?
I'm waiting for a "newish" B17 at about $50.

The way things are going over there you'll be able to buy em new from the factory for that much because of the exchange rate.
