I would like to visit New Mexico next summer and need some feedback on road cycling in the area of the Ojo Caliente Spa and resort. From google maps/mapquest it appears that there are some major roads that form a 50-60 mile around the hotel.
I've contacted the New Mexico DOT, but they have been too busy to give me any info/direction. Thought I'd jump on Bike Forums to see if I could get some help.
I need to think a little more on this as its been a while since I've been up that way. However, if memory serves, you would be riding on highways, but highways with fairly wide and manageable shoulders. A ride to Abiquiu lake would be quite pretty and doable. I'd caution that there are many driveways and turns from these highways and that local drivers aren't going to be too kind/observant.
