Re-using Tubular Tires

What's you're experience with re-using tubulars - how many seasons can you get out of them?

I ran some Challange Fango's last year - worked great all season. After storing them in my basement through the winter, the glue got weak. So, I peeled them off and re-glued them again for this season. I've read that you can get several seasons out of a good pair of tubulars- but how so? I wouldn't trust the glue for more than a season racing in the wet, north east, and wouldn't prying off and regluing again damage the cloth that you glue to the wheel?

If they hold air and the tread still works then proceed as usual.

Rip the tire off & re-glue.

You shouldn't damage the base tape, most of the glue should be dried out by now & brittle. I take a butter knife to tire & rim to take some of the dry stuff off. After that, I apply a fresh layer to both and re-glue.

I've found cross tubs to be much better than road tubs. I don't even mount road tubs anymore on 'spare' wheels because I find that the base tape gives way a lot earlier than the glue joint.

Been racing on cross tubs for 7-8 years now and I do not see the same thing... have no idea why. I always use Mastik One, road and or cross. I only buy top quality tubs. I find Tufo to be the best for cross, the base tape is solid and you have no tube inside to worry about. I've got some FMB's that have been mounted for two years and they are still rock solid.

Could be the original mount? You need to use a LOT of glue to mount cross tubs...
