Send your bike infrastructure improvement ideas to the City of Toronto

I noticed that the most recent edition of Toronto's Cyclometer email newsletter contains a request for suggestions regarding upgrades to bike infrastructure in the city. I sent a detailed email to bikeplan@toronto.ca which outlined improvements to the areas I ride most often - the Humber bike path and Martin Goodman/Queens Quay areas.

Even though we don't have a very bike-friendly mayor, the city has asked for our input and we should give it. On the plus side, Ford is supportive of getting cyclists off the street, so asking for improvements to bike paths seems to me to be the best chance of seeing improvements while he's in power.

The key quotes from the newsletter are:

"Do you have an idea for a trail which could be upgraded in your area? Transportation is looking for priority connections that will help form a complete network, and make communities more bikeable."

"Transportation Services is now working to develop a list of trail projects which may be undertaken in the next four years. Once finished, the list of projects will comprise a multi-year bikeway trails plan. Transportation will report to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee at its November 2011 meeting regarding the development of Trails projects."

Good point. It's easy to complain about lack of infrastructure, but harder to actually come up with some ideas. I will give it a good think. Thanks.
